All About Violin Classes and Teachers

I called all the schools… Mac, Mandeville, Crestar, Sempi, etc. They all start ard 3 years old. No more at 18 mths … Anyway, I figured she should start formal lessons when her attention span is longer than 10 mins. For now, her music lessons are my lessons. Tat way, we can both learn

Mebbe when her arm is longer, she can hold the violin at the neck. Now, getting her used to holding a violin for a few mins. If she dislikes it… nuthin u can do will make her pick up the violin. Its a tough balancing act!

I won't say it is more justifiable. Depends on how much integrity the school/teacher has. Some schools buy in bulk, hence can get better discounts for their students. Some teachers (btw, the stories that I've heard involve mostly teachers who are not locals, iykwim) may take a cut from sales. :x (It's the same with some tuition teachers - they buy the books fm Popular using their discount card but charges you full price :roll: ). Some teachers keep a limted stock of violins in their school and they will prob choose the best one for the student.

For the bundle of $130 for book, shoulder rest and violin - assuming the book cost $15, shoulder rest $15, then the violin would cost $100. For that price, I would rather go and get a student model violin from Synwin. I was told that when you upgrade, they will give you a discount if you return the original violin (pls check to confirm). Furthermore, their aftersales service is good.

Another option is to get a 2nd hand violin. Costs a fraction of the price of a new one and your heart will not break everytime a new scratch appears or violin is lost (yeap, that's my child :stupid: ). Money saved can be used to replace old strings with good quality strings ,broken bows :lol:, a musicbook stand and a good quality shoulder rest.

Some schools insist on a parent buying a violin too. Plse go Synwin first and ask them to play on their student model and hand-made model. I think for a full size violin, u may want to invest in a better quality model. Particularly, if you develop a fondness for the violin. No harm checking out the violin at Synwin first

I was planning to start only at 2+. Around 30mths.

we were surprised that he could too. maybe he's been observing more than we know.

That chocolate box is from Austria - a Mozart Choc box.- empty already of course - we ate it all. My daughter brought it back from a competition trip to Vienna 2 years ago.

I do have a violin. A 3/4 for myself. I loaned it out to a friend for her daughter to use while I was pregnant.

Apart fm Synwin that I'd mentioned in another post, Gramercy is another reputable shop. Heard their lutheir is among the best in Spore.
