Suzuki Violin - Discussion
-
Hi all,
I’m also looking for a violin teacher for my 8 year old. We wanted him to have the flexibility of a home teacher and we’re not the "must-do-grade-8-by-10-year-old" type. It’s really to build up his musical education and would very much like him to enjoy the process rather than the cramp-school style which he is already "enjoying" in our education system.
He’s on and off on the Suzuki since 4 and already well into book 2.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated. BTW we live in Bishan.
Cheers! -

Busymom & Chamonix, you have PM!
Hi,
Pls PM me Ms yah contact, is she particular about her students? -
luckystar:
She was NAFA teacher many years back, now she is a private teacher. Her niece Helena Dawn (14) just left to Menuhin too. Janell Yeo (16) in US , Edward, winner of Young Violinist Competition are her students.
Hi, May I have Ms Yah contact no too? thank you soo much. -
I would like to address the Suzuki vs. Traditional violin question, as a traditionally trained musician who has taught Suzuki violin for the last 30 years.
When you are looking for a teacher for you child you would like to find one that:
-Can play their instrument on a professional level, so they can inspire your child
-Will provide private lessons, so the program can move at your child’s pace
-Will provide group lessons and/or ensemble experience, because peer motivation is a powerful thing
Teachers who have pursued Suzuki teacher training, although not required to call oneself a Suzuki teacher, will be more likely to be able handle very young students. There are many interpretations and implementations of the Suzuki method, but the most important element is the belief that all children can learn to play at a high level of ability, and that it is good for them to develop this ability.

Do you teach very young children?
Which part of Singapore?
Do you offer an Ensemble group for them to perform together as well? -
Hi Lucky Star and Buds
May I have Ms Yah’s contact as well? Thanks!!! -
chamonix:
For suzuki violin lessons, the kids are not required to learn to read notes in the beginning. They are trained to play by ear as well as memory. This allows children as young as 2 years old to start learning the instrument. .
Where are there teachers who take in 2 year old students? Any recommendations? So far, I only find suzuki groups that state 3.5year old. -
phankao:
Are you staying in the West? If so, you can try the Crestar @ Jurong East and enquire if they still accept toddlers for suzuki.
