All About Primary One Readiness & Preparatory Courses

I’m of a different opinion.
Kids that had attended kindergarten would have no problem in Primary 1. Exception would be those attending not so local acedemic focused international school’s kindergartens. -

Hi, I was told that if a K2 kid who goes to a pri 1 preparatory class willbe very beneficial to them. Anyone knows where conduct such a class? I am staying in Central. Thank You!

isn't the K2 class a prep class for P1 ?
hopefully we are looking at graduation exam scores for K2 / pre-P1 training ?? lol -

agree... i guess these people just want to earn more money from all the kan-cheong parents around. anyway, most schools now are quite easy on the P1s. most schools have no exams for the P1s. P1 are just 'honeymoon' adjusting period. Don't make it too big a deal or your kids will feel it and get stressed up too. A child will have many many years of exam 'stress' when they go up the level. i'm of the opinion of not stessing them when they are just going P1. just my humble opinion.I'm of a different opinion.

Hi all, thks for the advise. I saw a pri one preparatory class that teaches besides eng, chi, maths, they also teach time, money and how to buy food in a Sch canteen. I tgt this is cool so the kids will be prepared when they go p1. Unfortunately, the Sch is busy with other classes they hv no time to open this class now. Lastly, ya, I shld not stress her so much too.

Not to worry about buying food in canteen as most school practise buddy-system for orientation period where an older boy or girl will guide your child how to queue and buy food.
And you can also help by encouraging your child to go pay for things over the counter when you go shopping for the next 6 mths.
Concept of money, paying & getting change, etc are also taught in Pri 1. -
I too am of the opinion that this P1 prep class thing is not necessary. Time and money is covered in most if not all K2 curriculum. However, to get the hang of telling time and handling money, it takes practice. So the best prep class you can give your kid will be to give them the opportunity to do that in their daily activities.
Save up that money. It will come in handy as you will realise that you need to replace a lot of their stuff, lost/broken water bottles, misplaced books, etc :stupid: -
Hi all, thks! I shall ignore this preparatory class then. Hai…, it’s so ‘siong’ to b a parent nowadays

Hi,
My son going to P1 next yr. He is attending phonics (Read in a week), P1 prep for math/eng & chinese (han yu pinyin) classes now in addition to his K2 (PCF). I do so becuase he’s not so good with English (esp. spoken). Reason being he’s look after by a nanny who speaks only chinese (even the chinese also not very accurate…). Think he also lacks confidence in expressing himself using english and doesn’t know how to apply what he learnt - grammar, vocab etc. But he has no problem in spelling and remembering most common words, or read from story books. I have tried my best to teach and speak to him but results not good. I am really tired out. Does anyone has more effective ways in improving spoken english for kid? Thanks very much for any help.
The chinese class is bcos PCF doesn’t teach Han Yu Pinyin and i thought better expose him to that instead of wait till P1. I heard it’s a cramp course in P1 whereby they expect the poor kid to master the HYPY in 3 months. Is it true? -

Oh, to add on, actually I'm more worried if he can cope in P1. Whether he can interact effectively and communicate clearly with his teachers and peers. Scared teachers will grade him poorly as they can't understand him. He's also a bit shy in speaking to people so that may affect impression. He's actually very active and outspoken (not so gd lah). I scared he fared poorly in oral assessment....Hi,
