      hquek:
Not sure if I shared this before.

a friend's mum wanted to send maid away after 1+ year of service and on day of departure, they went through her stuff. Found phone card with hundreds of dollars inside, wallet stuffed with foreign currencies. Turns out she's been cleaning the house in more ways than one. But they didn't report to police and just sent her back.

And another where a friend took in a maid where the old person she was taking care of died, after some months of poor attitude etc, they decided to send her back. and it was only checking through her stuff that they realised the maid was moonlighting as a pros. haiizzz
Sounds like my friend's maid. Her last employer also passed away. Her working attitude was extremely poor and her behaviour led my friend to suspect she was working as a pros. After she sent her away, the other maids who knew the maid told my friend that the maid was indeed moonlighting. Problem is, the agency knowing full well the maid's history proceeded to place her with another employer.

I got a question - do any of you leave your maid at home when you go out on weekends for outing, or you bring her along?

What about when you go for family vacation, do you leave the maid alone at home for a week or more? if yes, how can you ensure the maid won’t do any hanky panky or bring a man home?

I’ve heard so many horror stories that I don’t leave my ex maid alone at home. So when we went out for shopping, to the zoo or makan etc, we always brought her along. And she get to have a break from housework too. But several friends I know dont bring their maid out and they say I ‘spoil’ my previous maid. so just wanna hear some of your views and experiences.

          Hi Angelight,

For me, we always bring the maid along for outings. So that we can have our fun and for her, it is hard work chasing after the kid around the shopping centres and ensuring DS eat properly at the restaurant. Ke..ke..ke!

It depends on wat kind of maid I have. My past maids dnt mind staying at home alone, they know we r out on sundays and theres no cooking so some would carry forward their work to sundays. My mum would also push forward some chores to be done when we are out. We used to bring the filipinas to church with us but they sll end up sleeping when the sermon starts so no point. My maid does alot of marketing and do fetch my daughter back frm enrichmnt classes so shes not cooked up at home. Looking back I think all my past maids quite like to be alone in the hse so they can steal food frm the fridge, use my nailpolish, sms, try my grls Tshirt n talk to the neighbours frm the backdoor. HAH! I even had one that nearly finished up a bottle of brandy used only for cooking. Sometimes must find work for them when alone. An idle mind is a devils workshop.

We normally will leave her at home on Sunday morning when we do marketing. And will be back around noon time. So, during the time she will clean my room before my baby takes his nap when we back from marketing.

We, sometime bring her along to restn and shopping ctr 😉

when my maid just joined us, I will insist that she goes with us for all our outings. But over the years, I will let her choose. Most of the time she will come along with us. Only at times when we go for movies or if she is not feeling well then she chooses to stay at home.

As for holidays, we bring her along for most of our trips and she enjoys them as well. Only during our last trip to HKG did we not bring her. She stayed with my sis for the duration of our trip.

Not advisable to leave the maid alone for prolonged periods. 1 day, ok but over a few days, I won’t advise that. If my sis or parents could not accomodate my maid, I would have sent her back to the agent for the duration of our trip.

i remember for my previous maid, one day after she arrived, we went to malaysia for 4 days. she stayed at home alone for 4 days just after arrived! on the 3rd day she called me saying she was scared especially in the evening because my house is quite big and hollow with very high ceiling. indeed in the night the shadow of trees and moon light are all over the house. we had a good laugh about her. but now look back i would not do that again.

I may actually need to hire a maid to help with chores as I am preparing to spend more time with kids when dd goes to P1 next year. Any good recommendation for decent maids or agency?

I would appreciate if someone can introduce their good maids whose contracts expired and employer do not want to renew because of kids growing up, etc...

                    Thanks!
Me too, would sincerely appreciate any recommendation.
currently am looking out for either maids or student care for DD when she starts her P1 next year

It varies according to agent. Mine used to charge 10 bucks a day but has gone up to 15. Its best to check with the agent u hired yr maid frm.
