My girl is an athlete and gosh her appetite is like an adult. Rice with miso soup early in the morning. Thus i am always looking for new recipe to feed her. Onigiri sounds interesting and it is too much work?

      Regards,

      Sammie
It all depends if you are a fast worker or not. I usually spent about 30-40 min every morning to prepare breakfast, recess and lunch for my girls.

It will be helpful if your rice cooker has a timer. It gets the rice ready when you wake up and all you need is to add sushi vinegar to the rice, stir thoroughly, cooled, than shaped and wrapped.

For a more professional look, buy the ready wrapper with seaweed inserted. Instructions on how to wrap a triangular onigiri is on the wrapper itself. Hygienic and seaweed remains crisp when eating.

This sounds very interesting. I usually pack cakes, buns or cookies for my DD's recess. But need something more filling for lunch, before CCA. Her school's canteen is a madhouse every lunch and not enough time to buy n eat before CCA starts.

Where can I get the professional wrap that comes with instructions? Advice much appreciated!

I wake up at that time too. My gals leave for sch at 6.45am?

Can I name the shop here? Should be no problem blah...??

Try Sol Mart (Korean supermarket) at Tampines 1, Kallang leisure park and Orchard Cineleisure (don't know if it is still there). Ask for ํฌ์žฅ๊น€ - Po Jang Kim (seaweed wrap). 50 pcs for S$18.90 costly?? but convenient.

                fussyMummy:

My worry : is the food still okay for my DS to eat at 330pm recess time? as I prepared it at 5am plus... :?

My Answer is NO. Pack dry food instead unless there is someone to heat up the food before he leaves for school. Not wise to leave food without refrigeration prepared since 5 am.

Somehow worry as that day I packed noodles from canteen at about 7am morning, eat it for lunch, found it has some funny smelly (spoiled) ๐Ÿ˜ข

Sure spoil...packed noodles advisable to eat within 2 hrs.

So I dont have other choice, have to prepare lunchbox for him everyday.. as I also afraid he might have gastric if continue like this...:
                You can pack:-

                1) Energy bars
                2) Cereal in airtight container + pack of UHT milk
                3) Onigiri if left in refrigerator after preparation (can be eaten cold)
                4) Bread/Bun
                5) Cakes
                6) Cookies
                7) Apples (whole)
                ๐Ÿ˜Ž Peanut butter sandwich

                etc..etc..

i dont add any vinegar to the rice, i usually mix sesame seeds with tuna flakes and shaped into triangle shape or put some other ingredient eg mayo egg or tuna into the centre of the rice ball. There's even commercially ready-packed seasoning call furikake, i usually get it from the japanese section in supermarket.

After rice are cooked, i usualy tk about 15 min to shape the rice for my ds lunch box.

                      Hi,

My kid have to bring lunch to eat @ school. He doesntโ€™ like sandwice @ all because is too dry. Any mommies prepare rice for your kids to bring to
school and can share how to prepare and most importantly put in what
kind of container? His lunchtime is 1230 and worries that by then the
                      food will turn rotten.

                      cheers,
                      worried mom

The easiest is fried rice. The most important part is to let it cool to room temperature before you cover the container. This way there will not be condensation which hasten food spoilage.

I donโ€™t like soft plastic container that leaves a strong smell. I prefer hard plastic containers that are air-tight. Metal containers may be very noisy in the bag.

The E-Zlock double containers are great for small portions of different dishes. I bought the small one that is divided into two smaller compartments all the way to the cover so it wonโ€™t leak into each other. You can pack rice in a container that will be a convenient plate, and use the E-Zlock divided container for meat and veg.

You said he doesnโ€™t like sandwiches becuase itโ€™s too dry. You can actually separate fillings from bread, or put the mayo/dressing separately. He adds it just before he eats. For rice, if you donโ€™t want to do fried rice too often, you can add some sesame oil or flaxseed oil to the rice so that itโ€™s not so dry.

Remember to put everything in a separate plastic bag before putting into the bag in case anything leaks.
