My opinion - I would most definitely go for Ai Tong in P2A2. In P2C, I'd withdraw from Ai Tong only if there was no risk, or if the odds are very, very good that I'd get a place in Rivervale or Mee Toh.

If my son remains in Ai Tong, I'd monitor him to see how he copes with the traveling. If he's ok, then I'd leave him in Ai Tong. But if there are issues, I'd seek a transfer to Rivervale or Mee Toh.

I'm not sure if this is true, but a parent told me that a school is usually more receptive to a transfer request if the student is a high performer or if he is transferring from a good school.

In any case, good luck, and I hope you get your son into the school that works out best for him!

My guess is that once your kid is in Ai Tong, you won't want to transfer him out....more likely you will find a suitable time to move nearer to Ai Tong

As for transfer - yes, good results do OPEN doors !

In the meantime, we're staying at just <50m away from Rivervale Primary school (in fact, my blk is attached to the back gate of the school & one does not even need to get any rain/shine at all!), and also <500m away from Mee Toh school. Ideally, we wld like to put my boy to either of these 2 schools, esp for Rivervale Primary based on distance. Besides, the standard of these 2 neighbourhood schools are not much inferior to Poi Ching or Ai Tong. So, it just does not make any sense for my boy to travel far. However, past balloting history has shown that both Rivervale & Mee Toh need balloting in p2C even if staying <1km. Unfortunately I cld not spare the time to do PV or grassroot acitivities as I just gave birth 1 yr ago which was exactly the period where PV/community services commence.

Hence, now our options are:
1) apply for Poi Ching under p2A2 as Tampines is nearer to Sengkang than Bishan,
2) apply for Ai Tong under p2A2 as this school seems to be more popular than Poi Ching,
3) take the risk & apply under p2C for either Rivervale Primary or Mee Toh, which involves applying for p2A2 first then closely monitoring the situation in these 2 schools. Pretty risky option as there may be last minute surge in demand for day 3 of p2C. I suppose there're many other parents also doing the same or similar thing too rite?

IMHO, Rivervale Pri is popular because it is one of the more established schools in Sengkang. Based on academic performance and ranking, I would choose Ai Tong anytime despite the distance.

I'm waiting for SHHK's news on whether we get the referral letter for Phase 2B in NanChiau. If can't, we plan to enrol in Anchor green under 2C (likely no ballot).

BTW, I also live within <1km of Rivervale Pri. But the odds of balloting in 2C are very low. Last year, my SIL balloted under 2C (something like 50 vacancies to 170 applns). Luckily she was successful.

I don't think we would want to go through the stress. Besides we heard good reviews on Anchor green although it is a new school.

I guess u are upgrading since u are moving to prime area bukit timah?? So it's still pretty \"sane\". hehe...i've got a fren who downgraded from a condo to a 4rm flat in an old estate just to get her girl to a branded school. That is kiasuism at its best!! :ugogirl:

oh please don't pray for property price to fall. When property prices fall, it can only mean there is another recessions - pay cuts, retrenchments, etc

Thus, it is to all our benefits if property prices just stabilise and it seems to be stabilising now.

properties in prime areas hold its value better

and in crisis period, they recover faster earlier too, as they are always in demand, which can't say the same of suburban mass market condo

Is Ai Tong a single session school already or partial sessions? Can your son cope to wake up very early and comes back late if by school bus. Or u are driving ? Then perhaps you child can sleep a bit late but we parents will have to wake up very early, to sent them to school then go to work.

You know not enough sleep will affect the results and further causes stress to your child too.

I remebered when I was a kid I woke up at around four for my school bus and the last to reach home. Very stressful I felt it at that time.
Mine is also a good school.
