All About Kids' Eye-sight

Hi! For kids with coloured blind will they be given special treatment during national service. Anyone has any idea?

It would depends on their extend of colour blindness and how it would affect their abilities to carry out certain functions.


Most partial colour blinded people are considered as combat fit and served NS as per any other people.

But certain vocations that require perfect colour perception would be out-of-reach for these group of people.

Student Health Centre has given us a Colour Visision Deficiency Notification and indicates that DS is unable to distinguish certain colours and shades well. So does it mean that he is partially coloured blind.

Btw, do you know which are the vocation in the NS that required perfect colour perception?

Myovision is only suitable for those with low degree. I had previously check for my girl but they say she is not suitable for Myovision as her eyesight is about 500 degree per eye.

Do anyone give any kind of eyes supplement for kids ? Any recommendations ?

Hi, my son was on atropine since Feb this year.

His eye sight was deterioriating every 3-6 months. It was finally under controlled since we started him on atropine this year. He is still on the eye drops. So far so good **keeping fingers crossed** Next visit to the Dr will be in Sep.

any parents any experience with 3M polarizing lights and inverter light?

I saw them at Carrefour, 3M polarizing is sold at S$209 (quite bulky) and the Panasonic inverter light is sold at $75.

the price difference is big... but polarizing light really worth to buy ? :?

Need some advise, my son was advised to consult optometrist/optician for further assessment. He is 14 years old, so far his eyes were good since young. I don’t know where to get him refer to optometrist? Any one can recommend?

If I just walk in to any spectacles, will they do the assessment? Are they professional enough to do the test?

I asked SNEC doctor. She said possible side effect but really no way to find out for sure until years later. Don't know what kind of side effect though
