2010 DSA(Direct School Admission)

I have just joined the forum myself and have not contributed much. There are people like mathsparks and others who shared their info generously and others who do not. For those who don't reply, I don't blame them or bear a grudge. There's no compulsion for them to share just because they asked for help before or they have gone through the experience, although it would be nice that they do.
I am grateful for any reply and I don't think anyone is obliged to share if they are not comfortable. The kids are undergoing a tremendous amount of pressure during this period. Let's not be quick to judge them. As parents, we also have to remind ourselves to be polite when asking for help too.

can i ask you were you soo perfect when you were a child that you can complain about this children.are you soo perfect that you can complain about children. A few comments is not definate that the children are very well disciplined in life. This forum is not life. You cannot judge their behaviour beacuse of their posts.Do you have any idea how will kids feel when they read your post. What if you child was in this forum and he was accused of bad behaviour will he/she feel very happy. what if a child who gets sad for even the smallest things read your post and susided and put the blame on you? Are you some kind of physchic or something to figure out what ruyu ws posting without him even completing his post? Do you know nick vujicic? He was born without limbs:both arms and both legs. He could have complained to god why he was born like this. But he did not.He took life as a challenge and won.You cannot say children are not prefect by their posts. No one is perfect. You cannot expect them to read a guide on proper forum rules before posting. I can see that you are not perfect. You just complain. On children some more. Give them a break, they are not as free as you posting about them. They have work to do too. So dont go about accusing children i am uterly angered by your post.
Hi Tutor tamil,
Please read my comments patiently and write your comment.I have never said that i was perfect or this and that....I had never complained anythhing about anybody..I was just sharing my point of view..Please read the words marked in blue again..
I read some parents writing about sharing the information on DSA..Mind it..i never said anything on that suvject!!! Its ones own wishto share or not to share their experiences.
You have to mind your language when you are posting publicly in a forum..How can you comment on my mental capabilties..PLEASE SHUT UP AND DONOT TYPE-IN WHATEVER YOU FEEL LIKE..IF YOU CANNOT , DONT COME ONLINE AND POST RUBBISH !!!!!
If my child comments like how Ruyu has done, i would be the first person to rectify him..
You are talking about the feelings of ruyu,He must think about the feelings of others before he post..Defintely, almighty and firebird would have been affected tooooooo...Right?
I dont know who is ruyu, or Moe hater nor Almighty... Just for your sake another copy paste of what ruyu has written to firebird under maths guru forum...P182 dt :17/7/2010firebird wrote:
I can clearly guess that tutor tamil, you too are immatured..See the language you use when you are not happy with a comment..and see the way i had communicated when i was not satisfied with a comment.
Dear Almighty

With best regards

Thank you for your kind words, match3frog.
Ermm, though I'm not sure what's brewing between the various forummers, please be reminded that we would like to keep this forum friendly; we don't want it to become hostile like some oher forums where every post is attacked and rebutted senselessly. Chief has created a wonderful platform for all to share and de-stress, so let's strive to keep it that way.
Having gone thru this stressful period myself last year, I fully understand the anxiety that kids and their parents are going thru'. Please calm down, and give your kids hugs and kisses for having done so well and coming so far already.
If you're a kid, aunty mathsparks thinks that you guys should hit the books already eh? Don't wait till the dsa is over, it'll be too late to catch up and prelims are round the corner.
PS: I remembered mentioning I'll share the dsa interview qns, well, just so you know, I didn't decide not to share, it's just that I rem son might have signed the non-disclosure with TLL and it wouldn't be right if I dug out his notes and post it here. Sorry, k? for those who waited. -

Hi YKiasu,
Hi Pateras, how are u able to make it for both? I tot HCI is full day from 9-5? Heard from frens last year tat HCI was really brain draining and a test on a child's stamina to go thru different test and end the day with a interview.Pateras:
Hi again!
My son will also attend the HCI DSA selection test on 24 July. Besides GAT, there will also be English, Chinese and Maths tests.
Can anyone please share on what type of questions the student can expect for the English, Chinese and Maths tests at HCI?
Thanks.
HCI has its test from 8am till 2pm. RI will start registration from 2pm but will start its paper at 2.30pm. It will be a mad rush to get from one place to the other. To any parent who is facing this predicament, I spoke to HCI today who advised such parents to tell the HCI teacher-in-charge that they will need to get their sons out by 2pm to rush over to RI. I also spoke to RI who advised that parents should try to get their sons to RI by 2.30pm latest.
By the way, can you please find out from your friends what type of questions were asked by HCI last year? For example, for English, were they grammar or vocab or comprehension or composition writing? For Maths, were they Maths Olympiad type of questions?
Thanks for your help. -
Hi Sautille,
Thank you so much for sharing your info regarding DSA Interview questions. You are a generous person who believes in sharing. Salute to you.
Hi match3frog,
You are right in saying that it is up to each member to share info or not. When a person wants to receive but never give, he or she chooses to be so. But there is nothing wrong in pointing it out, in a polite way.
You will certainly agree that forums will lose their value if everybody decides NOT to share their info but only keep on asking others to share. That was the point kiasu_2010 was trying to highlight.
Hi Mathsparks,
I appreciate you for being candid in telling why you are unable to share your sonβs interview questions. Perfectly OK. I agree with you that this forum is a beautiful platform to exchange our views. Let us keep it free of rancour.
Have a great day, everyone. -

Found out that you will be required to write an essay about a picture in both Chinese and English. The Math qns are manageable but draining as my fren's son was no Math Olympiad student.
Hope it'll be clear sky with no traffic this Sat

Peace on KSP!
This is a parents forum and we can maintain decorum. Most of us have been benifited and some take the pains to contribute. Thanks to all. :celebrate:
Children could be a bit immature - they tend to see things in black and white and may not be able to emphathise. They are in the learning/growing curve. Lets have the heart to forgive them and watch them grow by realising from their mistakes. And that can never be achieved by name calling.
If we as adult let our ego take charge of our wisdom - we are only letting the children get defensive. If we think someone is not doing the right thing we should just say so politely.
There are times when we come across post by who we know are children which seem rude or arrogant. Let one reader to whom the post is not addressed to (third party) take the responsibility to gently prod the poster
eg- ( maybe say \"----, i feel that the tone of ur post is impolite/ hurting. Could you be a bit more sensitive \") etc. Focus on the post not the poster.
Maybe in todays world - \"it takes a forum to raise a child\"
One concerned Kiasu parent :lovesite: -
All the best to students taking their second round of selection test/s this Saturday. Have plenty of rest the night before.

-
If the time conflict is between RI and NUSH or HCI and NUSH, does it mean we need to forego one? And between HCI and NUSH, which one will you forego?
-
Weather forecast for this Sat : Late morning and early afternoon showers with thunder.
Source : http://weather.nea.gov.sg/Forecast3Days.aspx
If their forecast is near accurate, then those who are rushing between HCI/NUSH & RI may want to plan alternative route in case flood / traffic jam due to storm.
Hope the weather will turn fine on that day. Good luck to all.
