Yes Janet, wait till you hear your dd coming back with all the \"Yo this & Yo that\". Almost everyday different slang. She has friends who come back from overseas for summer lessons & introduce more slangs.


I am very impressed with this IJ (TP) chinese teacher who is effectively bi-lingual. I spoke to her on the phone once & thought I got the wrong teacher cos she speaks such good english. Yes Ms Tang, chinese teacher in IJ is very good & bi-lingual too.

In IJ, the chinese teachers have to use english sometimes to engage the girls. Likewise at Maris too.

In a convent school, and especially in young families, I'm not surprised the Chinese teacher HAS to speak to the class in English as well, to get attention. If she goes on and on in Mandarin, I doubt her lesson would have gone into the girls' head. My son told me yesterday that his Chinese teacher spoke to them in English and ironically she banned the class from speaking English DURING her lessons.

I thought nowadays quite a lot of PRC MTL teachers? Then confirm communication breakdown with the english speaking kids??
