This is a thread for parents who have children in Pei Hwa...a thread where we share the different experiences of having kids in diff levels - both happy as well as difficult times. When there are happy times, we share. Same goes for parents who had kids who had a make-up Science exam. 😉

Parents who have kids who are going to P1 in Pei Hwa next year will have their fair share of ups and downs. This is the thread to voice out in a tactful manner.

Finally, I hope we can enjoy some peace again. Have a great weekend everyone. :celebrate:

        Hi Folks,

I have been following this thread and is getting worried though my son is due for registration only next year.

After reading Landmark’s post, let me share what my cousin told me during CNY this year.

They are residing at Hillview and did PV for PH, thus allowing them to register in Phase 2B. They were told by the school that they tried to take in PV for >2km and not to shortlist those < 1km so as to give chances to this group of people. Reason being when it comes to Phase 2C, this group of people totally has Zero chance.

So what Landmark had said is not totally untrue. However, I am unsure for the whole cohort of PV for this year and next year’s registration, what is the ratio of PVs within 1km and out of 2km. Maybe the no. of PV residing < 1km is 2 vs 18 out of 2km?

See that you just registered today :welcome:

Personally I find it strange that any sch will purposely try not to shortlist parents who stay near to sch, so as to give max chance to parents that stay more than 2km away. If this is indeed true, I wonder what those parents staying within 1km will say about that. Hmm, interesting food for thought here 😉

Well, its not like its the end of the world if child does not get into a particular school, there are other schools around. Hoping for the best but do prepare for the worst too. Regardless whether its PV, church affliation or grassroot, in 2B phase, the school always emphasize, its not guaranteed. PH is not an exception. I would not call those moving nearer to the proximity cheaters, on the contrary, I thought it was a smart move. With mine already in PH, we are also looking around to move nearer. If the whole family is willing to accommodate the move, why not?

I'm not saying this because my son is in the school. For kids who can't get into this school, there are other schools as good. No school will guarantee you a place even if you did PV or for religious reasons. One good example, MGS, just down the road.

My neighbour moved from Bukit Panjang to Toh Yi when her son was in P3...reason being is that her parents are staying at TY...more convenient to bring son home after dinner.

I sincerely hope we get to enjoy some peaceful chats on this thread again.

I read the related posts twice.

If what Landmark said is accurate, then I believe the sch should hv frozen the status of all PV at the point of registering as PV, that's to disregard whether a PV has moved within 1km so as not to give this particular PV an advantage during phase 2B balloting (if balloting is req'd and conducted according to distance).

Well, I learnt a lesson from this discussion; when someone is upset, let's just lend a listening ear and not comment too much. Just my 2cts.

Recently moved within 1 km of PHPP for my ds. Would have applied for pv at PHPP to increase his chance had we not chosen another school to do pv initially.

For popular schools, even those staying <1km may not be guaranteed a place so I would have thought any kiasu parent will up their chances by getting into phase 2b. To have a school take away that chance by not allowing pv to be those staying <2km would be cruel and even discrimination?

For phase 2b, when number of church/clan members is unpredictable, pvs staying >2km are actually taking great risk. Instead of having their 40 hrs possibly go down the drain, which is truly heartbreaking, moving within 1km seems a wise choice to me.

IMO, PVs should be given more credit and be categorised under the earlier phases, where proximity doesn’t have any bearing.

You have taken the big sacrifice to shift. I know quite a few parents doing this too (for all I know, maybe we know each other but I will not probe further, keke). Wishing you and all other parents making this sacrifice to be within 1km successful w/o balloting.

You were successful pv in other popular sch? Why aren't you targeting that instead?

The good news is that there is no such thing that living <2km from sch will disqualify you to be selected as a pv. Some of us are living proof that this is untrue.

Though I was staying more than 2km when I applied, I stated very clearly in my letter that once I'm selected, I'll be shifting right next to the sch. I've a friend who had been staying in Dunearn (< 1km) for many yrs. We were all selected.

In times of doubt, checking with the sch admin is always the best option.
