Remedy for Blocked Nose?

Anyone out there with kid having the same thing?

Ds2 has severe blocked nose and will bleed at slightest impact. He was diagnosed as having enlarged adenoid about a year ago. His condition seems to have gotten worse recently but we still can’t bear to have him go through surgery.

Is there any TCM equivalent of western ENT clinic we can go to?

1st visit consultation is $8, subsequent $5. Each day medication is $6 (unless more expensive types are prescribed).

I recently recommended a friend whose 3 sons hv sinus prob since young. The TCM told me since sinus is an infection, the prescribed medication is the bitter type. My friend’s youngest son told my boy that his was the most bitter type he has ever taken.

This TCM is very friendly, wont insist you take whole week medication. You can request for 3 days to try out whether your child can take to the bitterness.

I will be meeting this friend later in the afternoon, will ask her how the progress. Pls also bear in mind that sinus takes a longer time to heal, unlike our common cough/cold.

DS1 used to suffer from sniffers in the morning and at night. He ate loads of TCM medication that helped to alleviate a bit, but the problem never really went away.


At someone's recommendation, we used pure sesame oil (NOT the type that's mixed with veg oil). Dip cotton bud into the sesame oil, and dab gently inside the nostrils.

after a couple of weeks, the sinus mysteriously went away. We stopped for a while. There are times when the sniffers come back, we just do the sesame trick a bit and it'll go away again.

Googled and saw some TCM remedy that's available from our kitchens.

This friend said there is an improvement in her 3 boys, less nose blowing in the morning. The youngest one also has a clearer voice now. The TCm told her it would take abt 2-3 mths for her youngest one to clear up the prob.

DS1 was diagnoised w enlarged adenoid (but no bleeding) 3yrs ago. We went thru TCM for 1.5yrs to control his prolonged bad cough due to post nasal drip + Nasonex spray. Now he is still on Nasonex but at 7yo, I guess his passage way has widened & pri sch no aircon, so the blocking is less severe, except during drastic temp change, in dusty places etc, as per usual.

This TCM very nice person. We started seeing him after CNY. Sometimes he does not charge me the consultation fees becos my boys are seeing him.

In fact, since the start of this year, my elder boy used to take MC every 3 weeks, now his prob interval is stretched into 2 mths for the past 4 mths. Just a few days ago, passed the 2 mths interval. Also less temper flare-ups.

This TCM believes in consuming the Chinese yam. So I incorporate the Chinese yam (I buy the Japanese type) into our meals.

When my elder boy was younger, he cant stay in a cold room for too long, wld get blocked nose and a headache. Now he gets less headache attack (though the nose is only mildly blocked during the rainy days).

That friend who has 3 boys told me her eldest boy will suffer from headache when he has a cold.

According to TCM, when our nose is blocked, the circulation to our brain suffers, hence the cause of headache.

The Chinese yam is not the one used to make yam cake. The Chinese name is huei san, most pple use the dry version in si shen dang.
