We checked out Crescent yesterday just to take a look at the school since it wasn't the open house.
Great.
My girl was completely \"defeated\".
She said we've to travel one hour plus and we've asked a student there about the JC rate. She replied it wasn't 100% but 65.
She was willing to go to Cedar.
I heaved a sigh of relief.
And she completely removed Crescent from the 6 choices.

In the end her choices were(accordingly): Cedar, Anglican, St. Nicholas, TKGS, TK Sec, Chung Cheng Main.
I'm quite happy with her choices.

Actually there was another reason why she chose Cedar: The immersion programme includes her cousin's daughter's(my girl's dad is the youngest in his family so...) school.

This is totally wrong. Crescent has 100% admission into JC for the past 3 years. It has NEVER been 65%. In fact, Crescent even got the Value-added award, which meant that the students entered crescent with a score if 245, but when they graduate, their scores are better than those who graduated from other schools whose psle cop was 250.


Also, Cedar is more towards sports. Crescent has WIIs and absolutely great facilities. the teachers are even willing to stay back past their worktime to conduct consultations with students.

Life at crescent is also not totally about work. they have many outside classrooms activities and they even use their computers and dataloggers to conduct experiments. To be honest, I think your daughter will lose out by choosing cedar, because i know a girl from crescent and she entered crescent with a psle cop of 244 but graduated with an L1R5 of 5. Most of crescent's students graduate with good o-level scores, average would be L1R5 of 6, which means all subjects A1.

I don't think it is fair to say that their daughter is losing out by choosing Cedar. I study at Cedar and it is great. Yes, we are more inclined to sports, but this year, our school also has a Cedar Arts Fest which showcases our performing arts CCAs talents. In terms of facilities, other than having many sports halls, basketball courts, our own 400m track and many others, Cedar also has numerous dance studios, a theatrette, etc.. My school also has a decent O level result performance, just that some of our students prefer to choose Poly over JC, which isn't uncommon. I know students from Raffles and Nanyang that choose Poly over JC as well.

There's also a vibrant community here. The school pride is amazing. Cedar is not just about studying, it's about having fun and learning to be confident as well.

O level result has 10 students scoring A for 10 out of 10 subjects....It is next to CHIJ St. Nicholas school at 'O' levels.

Tablet PC program makes learning easier....... There are so many assignment notes on shared directory to practice & it is just a click away. I guess School is just realizing full benefits of Tablet PC program last year onwards... There could be more suurprise in store as this benefits could manifest in multiples in coming years.

Someone has written in this thread.... that you get in with T-Score of 240-250 & come out with L1R5 of 6-8 which would be the case in coing years...

Any one has update on Cedar as it has moved to new campus?

let’s not put any school in a bad light in the forum. i was from crescent and my dd is from cedar. both schools have their own strengths and both schools have the ability to produce top students.


just go to which school we are comfortable with.

Of course it doesnt do harm for one to compare, but I feel it isn't really good for both schools to be put in bad light as both schools are good and have their own strengths and niche areas.

I visited the campus during their open house last year. I like the spaciousness compared to some other secondary schools. The school is very well renovated the I like the design of the buildings. Overall, the learning environment in the school is very conducive.

go to both schools' website / open house to learn more about them and not throw mud at each other here. there is no one best school for every one.

Many factors need to be considered when choosing schools, etc distance, culture, niche area, etc. Academic results should not be the only consideration.

There is a gym, 2 sports hall, a 400m track, basketball court, badminton court and a high enclosure court where you can play all sorts of ball games without ball flying out of bounds.
