This is interesting.
Over the past 2 mths, I have had 2 friends confiding in me about how much of a blockhead their DHs are. One of them just had her birthday and there was no expression from her husband, not even a hug or a happy bday from him. The other one, just had their anniversary, and oso nothing from the DH. Both their husbands are devoted to their kids, wonderful father and filial son. Brings home the bacon to support the family but fail totally in the department of showing their wives affection.
The 2 of them are not even looking for presents, after so many years, they are willing to settle for any expression of affection, even if it comes in the form of a nagging.
I have kinda the same problem as mummyjoyce. DH keeps buying stuff for me that I donโt need nor like nor want or not my style. Then when I donโt use them, he gets a little upset. My problem is also the opposite from my friendsโ. DH is pretty affectionate, I get flowers every valentines and presents and dinners every bday or anniversay and even at times for no reason, he will give me something and say, for being such a wonderful wife. But but but, he is pretty much absent in my daily life. After many many quarrels and battles, and yah I read that book on language of love, I guess both of us kind of reached a middle ground. I expected a lot less and he did a little bit more. -
No foreverj, he's not an engineer or techy
Is this solely a female concern or do males ever feel the same way hoping their wife would surprise them with gifts but they never do? -

wow; more of less similar but my DH is very practical. He will not buy me roses on VDay but other type instead. He never say that I am a wonderful wife but I can sense that he really appreciate me looking after my 2 DDs and get stuffs organise even I am a FTWM. We will go for Mac breakfast instead on my Bday or some fastfood joints cos he does not like to go resturants and wait for his food - I am OK with all these as I am used to it. However he spent on buying things for me and my DDs!!! he is sweet. This is interesting.

Just tell him directly.

Actually my DH is one such guy. He needs a lot of verbal assurance and expressions of love. He likes little gifts and surprises. In our relationship, I am the blockhead.
Our language of love is different. Ain't that a surprise. Actually, think it is rare to be able to find a couple who has the same love language.
For me, I don't need gifts or surprises, what I want is for him to be more involved with the family and to put me first instead of the countless engagements he has. A bouquet of roses on valentine day or a diamond pendant/ring does not make up for all the times that he abandoned us to pursue his own programme.

Funz, you and my DH would make a perfect couple! :rotflmao: Just kidding. My DH loves to spend time with us, and takes time off from work whenever possible. But I think he's the type who needs others to tell him to 'open his eyes' to his wife's needs rather than trying to be a perfect father. :pokeeye:
