      Hi,

I read somewhere that they have some form of parent-teacher communication booklet. Is this true? Does the teacher check every student to make sure correct info are logged into the booklet? In case my kid didnt log or log the wrong info ...

And how is the homework for P1? If they cant finish their work in school do they have to stay back to finish it or are they allowed to bring home?

I am trying my best not to be too kiasu.. but husband says I am starting to show the signs already ...
Hi BraisedPorkBelly, I guess you are referring to the School's Handbook. Some teachers use it as a form of communication with the parents. However, I am not too sure whether they will check every kid to ensure correct entry. Quite unlikely. After a while, the child will learn to be more careful in writing down info into the handbook. All this while, my dd uses it to record down EVERYTHING she needed to remember, such as homework, announcements, notification letters for parents, emptying her sharperner, messages from teachers, or librarian, fill in lead for pencil, basically things she didn't have time to do in school, or things that she needed me to know or follow-up on. It's more like a 'mother-daughter communication booklet'. I didn't 'train' her to do that, but somehow it seems to work nicely for her (and for me). 😄 KS kid in the making! Haha. 😄 Still, my advise is to use it as liberally as your dd can.

P1 will be in the afternoon session, the school is not allowed to hold the students back if they can't complete their class assignments. They will have to bring home to complete.

You did the right thing to write your first post in the PH forum. It is one way to keep abreast of what's the latest in PH so don't worry about showing signs of kiasuism. Haha. We are just doing our best for our kids. 😉

        wow E3,

Your DD very 'automatic' leh. my ds always depend on his network, call friends up on this homework or that class etc. I think boys and girls really so different in initiative.

Did you parents go for the science expression 'concert'? i wish i could have gone for it 😢 now DS is bugging me to be parent volunteer on sports day.

I'm also concerned that DS next year in P1 would be blur blur. Wonder how he's going to lug the heavy school bag up 4 levels since he has low muscle tone. Also very worried about the teasing and bullying since he wears hearing aids and is dyslexic. This little package of mine sure is tricky.

Hi blurqueen, you didn't go? Our kids were in the same play, entitled \"Caterpillar's Voice\". It was ok. I took a long time searching for my dd after the play. It was pretty disorganised cos we didn't know where to look for our kids. Parents were left wandering around the school, playing hide-and-seek with their kids. By the way, I will be helping out at PlayFest! We've already received our 'duties'. There are many parent volunteers based on the list that was given.

I think your no2 can use the lift upon request. Kids somehow know whether they had gone too far teasing another kid. For those who do not, they will have to learn, if not, ask your ds to just ignore them. Generally, I think the kids in PH are quite harmless, pushing their luck at times, but dare not go overboard.

            Hi E3,

I couldn't go as I had to send DS2 for his remediation during that time. I asked DH to go instead but that man sat all the way to the end as he kept going out to make phone calls. Sigh. I can't make it this Playfest as timing is bad, need to send DS2 to school right in the middle of it.

I really hope that the kids won't bully him, I heard especially in upper primary, even theft takes place (kids sneaking around taking stationery etc of value or good quality), much less bullying. Thankfully for him, he's very soft natured and doesn't take others to heart but just wonder when will he 'snap' in frustration.

Oh another thing, is it true that the school has a mentally unstable cleaner who goes around hitting children with brooms and mops? Heard the security guard said that he's been warned and will report to police if he hits the children again. Security was speaking to a mother who's child has so many bruises all over the face!

Crossing fingers, HFMD doesn't spread in the school!

Don't scare me leh. I was contemplating whether can squeeze another slot for ds to take taekwondo lessons during weekends, but in the end decided not to. But after hearing you, must re-consider

But I seriously doubt that this is true. Cos if an adult hits a student with a broom, surely no sch will be able to cover it up. And surely no parents will be able to tolerate it, rite?

                Hi blurqueen,

Kids can be cruel to their classmates. But don’t worry, the kids in Pei Hwa are generally well-behaved.
My son has a classmate who cannot participate in vigorous activities nor come in close contact with crowds bcos of a medical reason. Everyday, there will be a classmate who will accompany him in the classroom during recess.
My son is born with a cleft condition. When he was in P1/2, his classmates called him a ‘vampire’ bcos of his teeth which were not aligned. He was very upset and refused to go to school. I had to talk to his teacher and she assured me that she will talk to the students about it. Anyway, I taught him to ignore when others tease him about this.
He’s in P4 this year, and whenever his new classmates ask him, he tells them that he is born with cleft.

                  Wish you all the best.

BTW IJJ's eldest dd spent her P1 and half of P2 in BTPS even applying for sch transfer to PH.
Thanks, Jennifer. All the best to all in phase 2C!

I hope I'm wrong about the mentally unstable cleaner. The mother seemed very angry and the security guard was trying to assure her that the guy has been warned. I was just eavesdropping and so unsure of the details  School may also try to 大事化小 and continue to observe him. Just hope I'm blur about it. :clubmyself:

Thanks for the assurance. When kids ask him, why does he need hearing aids, he's unsure what to reply. I told him to tell them that some people wear glasses to see clearer, he wears the aids to hear clearer. But still, being young kids, they like to pull it out of his ears and play with it, sometimes leaving bruises on his ears. Hopefully in Pri school, they're a tiny wee bit more 'mature' and will understand that the $5,000 hearing aids cannot be played with.
