RI Maths Competition

Is this result really that useful for DSA to RI/HCI/NUSH ?By either pure guessing or leaving all the questions blank, a candidate will be able to score 20% theoretically.
The RI paper is tremendously hard and is catered towards candidates with strong aplitude in maths plus having undergo strong training in maths olympiad.
They are only selecting 50 candidates out of 1000 over candidates which is less than 5% of the whole cohort.
one thing though: RI comp is not catered for GEP students. There are many usually more non GEP students who get into ranking than GEP students. GEP students only account for 1% of the cohort, hence the low percentage getting into ranking. -

So far, i have never heard of anyone who get distinction for RI comp and not being able to get into RI via DSA.

Similarly, i have not heard of anyone who get platinum for SMOPS not getting in HCI via DSA. In fact, gold never heard of too.
Also heard of students who only get bronze and no other special abilities getting into HCI via DSA. -

Hi Sally, may I know which enrichment centre did the school engage to give the Maths Olympiad training? Thanks.
My boy only has his Maths Olymiad training in his school but by external teacher engaged by the school. Seem good and his understand it but a lot depend on himself. To me teacher can only teach this much but the students themselve must pratice and have the right attitude. -

I believe in this type of competition, it really depends on the kid’s own interest, ability and aptitude to succeed. I know of some friends who try hard to “force” it on their kids to join maths olympiad, without much success in competition results. If the kid is interested and has the ability, the school will provide the necessary training to get them to the competition.

It’s a pity that TNS has only name while Macpherson (non-gep school) has 3 names (foreign sounding names…foreign talent…yet again) listed. Reason for this? I suspect it’s because TNS only allowed the amec/maths club members to participate.

No wonder TNS has never shown much strength in maths olympiad. Some schools like nanyang sent up to 5 classes to participate. Obviously they stand a higher chance with more people. -
i know that Nan hua P6 Maths Olympiad Training is by Maths Hub but the P5 Maths olympiad training is by another enrichment centre Bcoz Maths hub does not have enough teacher to teach P5 Math olympiad in Nan Hua Primary . i heard my boy's classmates say that the question set by enrichment centre was to simple , probably because they are in the mainstream . My boy goes directly to Maths hub Enrichment Centre those questiona are very challenging . he says that 50% of his Maths hub classmates are from Nanyang Primary . Actully , many student from Nan hua go directly to Maths hub too . some of them start from P1 haha....... really kiasu .javascript:emoticon(':hugs:')
Of course , the school's math olympiad is cheap ( $100 once a week for 4 months Only ) i think is still not enough for training bcoz is very short time .javascript:emoticon('')
But maths hub is whole yrs class so they maybe more professionar . ( per term 10 lessons with 2hrs per lessons $ 440 ) :hugs: :hugs:  -
