My girl was recently given a book, titled the Faraway Tree. To my surprise, she got hooked onto it, and first time in her life, she finished a fairly thick book. I see her reading at th balcony, in her room etc…

I myself was an avid Enid Byton fan when I was younger. Books of the Secret Seven, Find outers series…my favourite. But lots of teachers don’t advocate Enid Byton books, not sure why.

I am going to get some more for her…but realized that these days, quite hard to find a good range.

Yuh… in P1 I got hooked onto her Noddy series… and in P2, it was the Secret 7. I still vividly remember the 1st books I bought with the $20 MPH book prize I won in school - those days you can buy 5-6 books with $20. Enid Blyton totally rocks.

I think our modern teachers just wonder about the relevance of those tales to our children today who are born digital. Remember that there are no cell phones or computers during Ms Blyton’s time. Or maybe today’s kids just don’t like her books.

haha…so I have a fellow secret seven admirer.

Now as adult, the plot is surprisingly simple. But at our young age, it was very captivating. She is also a very prolific writer…there must be a very wide catalog of the books she have written.

Is Secret Seven good for K2 boys?
I'm sourcing around for books to captivate my K2 son who hates reading. Looking for short and captivating stories. Had bought those bedtime tales to start with, but he gets put off if the pages of the stories span more than 4 pages (A4 size page). Besides, there are only so much bedtime tales stories (eg three little pigs, hansel and gretel, rapunzal etc etc) regardless of the variations of such books available in the market.

            So...any recommendations?

You mean the Ladybird books? i have the full set because my child used to read them when he was in pre-sch 🙂 It is good because it has a lot of high frequency words.

I saw a wide range of Enid Byton books at the Popular Bookshop @ Tiong Bahru Plaza. Got 1 for my daughter and she loves it… Told her I’ll buy her a new one when she finishes her first book. Sure hope her enthusiasm last though…
