Now as adult, the plot is surprisingly simple. But at our young age, it was very captivating. She is also a very prolific writer…there must be a very wide catalog of the books she have written.

Is Secret Seven good for K2 boys?
I'm sourcing around for books to captivate my K2 son who hates reading. Looking for short and captivating stories. Had bought those bedtime tales to start with, but he gets put off if the pages of the stories span more than 4 pages (A4 size page). Besides, there are only so much bedtime tales stories (eg three little pigs, hansel and gretel, rapunzal etc etc) regardless of the variations of such books available in the market.

So...any recommendations?

my child’s tutor gives him books from readinga-z.com. she selects the books and read together with them sometimes, not bad.

my k1 gal is crazy about the Peter and Jane series. Can’t get her interested in anything else. Anybody’s kids like the series too?

You mean the Ladybird books? i have the full set because my child used to read them when he was in pre-sch It is good because it has a lot of high frequency words.

I saw a wide range of Enid Byton books at the Popular Bookshop @ Tiong Bahru Plaza. Got 1 for my daughter and she loves it… Told her I’ll buy her a new one when she finishes her first book. Sure hope her enthusiasm last though…

Heyya all,


Think Peter & Jane has this continuation like
1a, 1b and 1c and so on... The C is the written
activity for the series to reinforce what has been
read so far for the particular number book.. 1c
will have activities for stories read from book 1a
and 1b... and so on.

High frequency words which are non-phonetic are
great for introduction to sight words. They have a
note at the bottom of each page if there are any
new words introduced.

Similar to songs which are evergreen from the 80's,
Peter and Jane series are like that!

I'm also an Enid Blyton fan.
Was into the Secret 7 stuff too.

Now my kiddie reads them.
Enid Blyton has this new series abt
the Naughtiest Girl In School, at least
i think its new. Also the Geronimo
Stilton series are very fun to read.
The creative manner they project the
interesting adjectives add humour to
the series.

I like Roald Dahl as well..
The descriptions of the Chocolate Factory
book made me drool ponds! ( I'm very
imaginative... )

Dr Seuss! Gosh, that fella can sure rhyme!

When they were younger i exposed them
to the variety from Eric Carle, Maisy, Preston
Pig, Meg and Mog, Harriet Ziefert books are
colurful and creative. Lift the flaps are a particular
favourite with my kiddies.

I do love and own a few from the \"holey-book\"
range of Benedict Guettier too. My kids chubby
cheeks fit into the holes (for their faces) like
buns and paos! Playgroup children adore this
book and nice for picture taking too. Parents
who were on trial during my story hour with
Benedict's books were captivated by how their
children were captivated with the books. Hint hint..

Books should be fun for age appropriate groups too.
If if starts out as a bore it will always be boring...

Make reading fun!
