Q. Beth had 40% more beads than Diana. After Beth gave 10% of her beads to Diana, She had 48 more beads than Diana.

a) How many beads did the two girls have altogether?

b) How many beads must Beth give to Diana so that both girls would have the same number of beads?

Above question is difficult than I had asked. I tried.

Left => 1- 5/12 = 7/12

5 Kg x 7/12 = 35/12kg left

5 Kg x 7/12 = 35/12kg left
You’ve answered the first part of the question.
From the remainder of 35/12kg, you have to take into account the repacking of the remaining rice into smaller packets of 2/3kg each to get the answer.

Like your earlier question, this one also touches on product of proper fractions. Such questions may look easy at first glance, but may trip some students as they can be tricky.

The answer is 1/4kg.

Hi ... I have got the same answer too.

Using a model ;
J = 4 units
M = 3 units
G = 12 units
A = 4 units + 40

Since Angela should have half as much as Grace, she should have 6 units in total. Hence the 2 units is equal to 40.

1 unit = 20
J - 4 * 20 = 80
M - 3 * 20 = 60
G - 12 * 20 = 240
A - 4 * 20 + 40 = 120

There are 5 boys A. B, C, Dand E. Each time 2 boys will pair up to have their mass taken. The ten readings in kg are 105, 113 116, 117, 118,124,125,130,137 and 139. What is the mass of the third heaviest boy?
