      buds:

Another similar strategy can be used to sing
the days of the week, adapting the tune to
      O' My Darlin' Clementine..

      There are 7 days,
      There are 7 days,
      There are 7 days,
      In a week.......
      Monday, Tuesday.......
      Wednesday, Thursday.......
      Friday, Saturday and Sunday.......

Note : Wednesday is pronounced as wenzdei.
      Not Wed-nes-day or When-nurse-day..
      Just wenz-dei.

Word of caution : Such strategies can evoke obsessive
reactions to songs. Children may have the songs stuck
in their heads and they may sing it over and over again
like under a \"Months-of-the-year\" spell! Do not say you
      were not warned!
      Dear buds,

Thank you for the tips on how to teach pre-sch maths above. They are v v useful.

Also, I SO agree with you that this 7 days a week song is can get SO addictive. My DS is constantly singing - this song - and he NEVER fails to correct me if I get it wrong eg: \"There are seven days, there are seven days, there are seven days of the week.....\" He'll say \"no mummi, its in the week, not of\"

hi, I just want to share with you all

I also teach my girl Maths at Home. She is now 5 ,doing 4 digit addition and subtraction Maths. She able to remember times table 1-12 . She could doing division, multiplication.

I never use a lot of resources to teach but i teach her to count 1-100 then 100-1 till she is familiar all the number in order from front to back then back to front. in this way she can easily to know before 10 is 9 and after 10 is 11.

        I am using fingers count methods. if 9+1= ? . I teach her put the finger out 1 . then count from 9 + 1 finger = 10. same as subtraction. if 9-1= ?
put out finger 1 then count from 9 then count backward. 8

and I also using kumon methods. let her practise worksheet like 1+1, 1+2, 1+3.....
        then 2+1 , 2+2....

that methods is work for my girl. she is very sensitive to the numbers if she could count from 1 to 100 then 100-1.

          Hi sunflower2005

Thanks for your sharing. Very impressive for a 5 yr old to be able to remember time-table 1-12 and doing division and multiplication!

          Can you pls advise :
          1. how much time do you use to teach your girl Maths ? is it on a daily basis?
          2. you mentioned you use kumon methods - do they have a specific way to teach? Or just buy the worksheet for her to practise at home till she is familiar?

          Thanks

Is on daily basis about half a hour / half or one worksheet.
You can refer to my blog.
            http://tongfamilysabrina.blogspot.com/search/label/Maths

about Kumon method- is more on practising.
do they have a specific way to teach? I not very sure. I only brought the worksheet from popular JB.
and I will explain it and stay with her a few week about 2 months , she could do it independently by herself.

once their similiar the numbers they will do very fast , one row take less than 5 min

                Hi sunflower2005

Thanks for your sharing. I am really impressed with the progress of your girl in Maths.

Will try out your method to teach my son. So do you specifically teach her on number bond? How do you get her to remember it?

                Thanks

I am using numbers in a flash to teach.

                  1) I arrange the numbers in order from 1 to 10 then read it loudly ask her repeat it after me.
                  2) sheffle the cards and ask her to put them in order.
                  3) I arrange it in 1, __ ,3 ___, 5___ask her to fill in the missing numbers.

start from 1-10 and then 11-20...and so on.

Maybe will need a bit more patience for the journey. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, really need patience while teaching.
So does your girl attend any enrichment classes ?
Actually I was thinking to teach whatever I can and then send him for abacus class next year. After reading your blog, think I can consider to KIV my plan and see how it goes.

                    Thanks!

how to teach a child numbers from 11 onwards?

as the numbers increased, i find it hard for a child to count from 1 to 20 or even 30โ€ฆ after counting to 11 or 12, my boy seems to lost interestโ€ฆ

                        Hifive,

So far my girl only have swimming lesson and arts class for one term.
all other subjects all teach at home by myself.

yes , Is challenging for the parents, important thing need a lot of pantience and love to them.
count and repeat to them ,never give up . one day them will learn.
sometimes maybe u will think that you have done it so much but them still never learn.
\"U need to kick it out this thinking\" think positively ๐Ÿ™‚
                        enjoy u journey with them.
