you have to check out the school's past stats to have a gauge of your chance under phase 2B as you are residing >2km from the school. if there are balloting, you will be in an extremely risky position. you can get the stats link at the first page of this thread.
being a church member only give you a chance to participate in Phase2B which otherwise will leave you with only Phase2C option.

I’m very new to the thread… I guess I’m very slow…my kid is born in Y2004, which means I have to sign up PV anytime now… I’m keen to do PV for SAJS. But when I called up the school, was told to email them. After emailing, they replied that I need to attend a briefing on PV in May, thereafter I can then decide if I want to sign up as PV.

Can’t we sign up as PV first and then attend the briefing? I’m worry in case by then, the registration for PV will be close for SAJS… Anyone has or want to PV for SAJS?

I’m staying >2km from SAJS… looking at the past statistics, Phase 2B requires balloting for more than 2km… I’m wondering should I take the risk and try?

Any one has any comments on SAJS?

I am also keen to get my son in to SAJS, but then he will only be P1 in year 2015, so still a long way for me to be a PV I guess.

For the PV talk in May, must register or is it open to any parents who are interested to PV? When is the talk?

What about a reading programme? I am a FTWM and I do a reading prg at a school twice a week for about 30 mins each time. It takes some time to finish the 40 hours, but in between you can take 1/2 day or holiday (take CCL got 6 this year onwards) and clock in some hours which makes a big difference to the final 40 hrs.

why don't you just ask them? they may only accept pv application on the spot during the briefing....

that is very risky, as you know that if you are unsuccessful in phase 2B, you will have no chance at all under Phase 2C. you have to note that it is difficult to gauge the response at phase 2B cos while the school can control the no. of pv applicants, they cannot control the no. of church members applying under this phase of which the no. can be pretty big.

The school I am doing it for does not really expect a lot from me IMHO. What I do is go to the school around 720 am. They have a reading series set, with levels from AA (for the very low) to M/N for the higher levels. There are 4-5 books per level so I start the level I am told the kids are in and then do 1 book for 2-3 weeks, depending on the difficulty level and then move on to other books on the same level. When we do 2-3 books on a level and I sense the children are confident of the level, we move to the next level.

We also have forms from the school to fill about each child's progress/reading capability. I guess the school monitors this and reassigns children as and when they see fit - that is they move them from one group to the other.
