Hi All,

I need your help in answering this 2008 P4 Science Qn from Maha Bodhi SA1 Q23 and thank you for your time plus effort.

My younger sister interpreted the part marked X as \"seed coat\" and gave her answer as option (1). However, the worksheet's answer is option (2) meaning that the part marked X should be considered as \"seed leaf\" instead.

I think that answer option (2) should be correct as the seedling has already developed roots as seen in the picture. So, the seed coat of the seedling should have wilted and no longer exist at this stage.

Pls advise your thoughts and the most correct answer.

Hi,Ks2me. It’s just that you sound like a expert and of course if you don’t mind next time can ask you some more science question bcos I’m very lousy for my science and get a "F" for my O’level.

In P3 Science, students know that fungi reproduce through spores.
Therefore one logical answer is mushrooms produce spores to reproduce so as to ensure the continuity of its own kind.Otherwise it will become extinct.

Yes with enough nutrients and water, the mushroom's \"fruiting part\" or reproduction system will produce the spores and not seeds as mushroom is part of fungi family. Spores are single cells that can develop into a mushroom each. The spores are transported by the wind to suitable soil for it to grow into a mushroom.

Hi Shurley197323, thanks for your reply. I am not a teacher by profession but according to many I know, they say teaching is in me like a passion. MOE \"recruited\" me before but due to personal reasons, I could not take it up.

If you don't mind that I am not a teacher but I was a Pure Science student during my schooldays, I am still happy to answer any questions that I am capable of answering.

Flowering plants produce flowers and they reproduce through seeds whereas non-flowering plants do not have flowers and they reproduce through spores. Mushrooms are non-flowering plants, so they reproduce through spores.
