My son got punished often in P1 for talking. Came home with black face and sulking in the corner. At P2, still got punished and even had to stand in front of whole school during assembly for talking. At P3, his skin is thick already.
Haha...actually this is what I can foresee will happen to my kiddo, he just talks non-stop! His K2 teacher makes him sits beside her so that he doesn't distrupt her lesson  . So his skin is already pretty thick now!! -
Hi notabox,
I’m not academically strong…didn’t do well in school, but now have to teach son (and daughter going P1) in their subjects until I cannot handle, then I will have to outsource. Lower primary still can lah, but subjects are getting tougher every year.
Like what IJJ mentioned, it’s quite enjoyable coaching them and knowing their strengths & weaknesses. Can save quite a sum of money…tutors are not cheap now, but CL tuition $$$ cannot be saved. -

Hi Janet, I admired you and rest who are able to coach your children. I revise my ds's homework with him and guide him whenever he needs it but to teach the actual teaching is really beyond me.Hi notabox,

Dh met a father (a PR from HK) during one of the pv assignments and he shared that he outsource to others all academic teachings of his kids so that whatever time he has with his kids are all good and happy times. I thought that was a pretty weird idea initially until I found myself regularly scolding my kids while revising their homework with them and thought to myself what if these scenes dominate most of the memories we have as family?
Every single day after work, I long to pick up ds1 & ds2 from childcare and then head home to see my little 1 because I misses them so much. But once home, after the bath and dinner routine, we are left with just a couple of hours before bedtime. These 2 hours are then spent revising homework with my ds1 & ds2 and in most instances, there will be scolding from me and unhappiness then ensued. I wanted those precious few hours spent doing happy stuff with all 3 of my children so that none is deprived of my time and attention.
So me and dh have already decided to adopt the same idea of outsourcing the academic teachings to professionals who are not just more qualify than us but also able to provide a better learning atmosphere (they are more patient) for my children to learn . To each his own :celebrate:. -
Hi all, I have managed to read up to page 30 so far but will be busy with house moving soon so don’t think I can complete the reading of this thread anytime soon to look for answers to my queries. Hope you guys can provide some quick help.
1. When should we contact the school bus operator to engage their service? Last read that fee is $85, any changes?
2. Are parents allow to go into the school during recess time for the first few days of school for the P1? If recess time is at 3pm, then basically pack snacks such as sandwiches instead of bento for ds will do right? Ds is not familiar with money yet, so am worried. Please share how your kids cope during recess time when they first goes P1.
3. Any parents with kids that took up wushu as cca? Is it good? Practice sessions are on Sat am, are there school bus service available?
TIA! -

Dd in P1 this year and this is likely what will happen on the first day.2. Are parents allow to go into the school during recess time for the first few days of school for the P1? When the kid reaches school, the buddy will assist your kid and he/she would bring the kid to the school hall. The buddy will even help in carrying the bag for the kid, so don't worry....Each kid will be assign a buddy - P5 student, for a week. Parents are only allow to enter the school on the first day only. You are not allow to enter the canteen area during the recess time but you can watch them from a distance. The buddies will be with them and assist them. Kids learn fast, so don't worry, your ds will be able to cope with money very soon... but it is better not to give the kid too much money, just enough for the day will do.....Basically, the kid will be on their own from 2nd day onward..... -

Where do you reside? I am in Bt Batok and my bus fare for 2 ways is around $65. I think you should contact them after orientation.

Mine was with another school during P1. I guess its about the same. Parents only allow the first day, but cannot help in buying food. Each class has their destinated table and seats. I let her bring lunchboxes on alternative days. Packed sandwiches, bentos, cookies varieties of stuff which she likes. As for money, I gave her $1 a day and she started learning from there, not much issue.
At times she was really confusing, she just gave the $1 to the vendor for him/her to give back the change.

Mine is not in wushu, but what I know sat not school bus service for this year.
TIA! -

My son was at P1 this year, let me share with you my experiences:
1. School bus - during orientation day there will be school bus operator waiting at the canteen and you could check with them.
Due to P1 is afternoon classes, normally bus service only provide evening service to send your kid home.
2. Parents only allow to enter to school for the 1st day, during recess time normally have senior (P5) to tag along them for one week. Parents are not allow to go to canteen with their kids.
Money issue, my son also blur blur when buying something at the early stage. He was at Care jucntion in the morning and I gave him $5 each day for lunch n recess, he can spend all and told me he only buy one bowl of mee and drink only. I guess he always give $1 to stall people and did not ask for change even though the food is not cost $1.
Be patient, slowly your kids will how to culculate money if they have chance to buy food from stall.
I preferred my son to buy food from school stall during lunch time and bring some snack (cake or biscuit) for recess. At least he learn how to buy and culculate money from P1.
3. CCA wushu - my son not joining this CCA. but I son told me that school provided this wushu on every wednesday during school hour now after June school holiday.
Hope all the above help. -
Hi notabox,
I’m a SAHM…I am not really teaching my son, just guiding him. I’m very grateful that Pei Hwa teachers are dedicated, so I don’t have to teach much.
My son attends Jan & Elly…his ex-classmate sends his kids there, also outsource children’s academic teaching to tutors. -

Where are you moving to? I am staying at West Coast area ($90 for both trips). It's a small bus with seat belts. When you received the Orientation Package, you will also receive the contact numbers of the bus drivers for the respective areas.[quote]2. She learnt to explore the stalls in her own time by observing what her classmates ate, identified the most popular stall and what she would like to eat and how much time she needed to finish eating. She has $2 a day.

Hi notabox,
My son has packed food for recess since P1…was afraid of him carrying steaming hot food, so gave him either biscuits/pau/sandwiches for his recess. He has since explored different stalls with his classmates and will buy food on certain days.
