Plenty of relatives of YOG athletes paid their own way to SG and buy their own tickets too.

Even more of the overseas YOG athletes would not have a relative in attendance at this event.

Why do they need to spend $1200? Brother, sister, parents, granduncle all need to attend every match?

      A bit unreasonable, I think.....

Most of these international competitions are self-funding
or participants are funded by their NOCs.
Local parents pay their own way too when
they go overseas to support their kids.
But for this YOG, Singapore or IOC is picking up the tab for the travel,
lodgings and food of the participants n officials for the duration of the Games.
      Each ticket costs about $10 - $30.
Is it too much to ask dat SYOGOC give a couple of tickets
      to each local athlete’s parents
      to attend in recognition
of their support for the kid’s time and dedication to represent Singapore?
The venues are not filled in any case.
Family support would mean a lot for competitors.
A couple of hundred bucks could also mean a lot to some families.
I can understand why she n others are peeved.

Not sure I follow the logic. How are the other international events funding different from YOG? Is it not a mixture of sponsorship, host country investment and ticket sales?

A couple of tickets to each match would not add up to $1200. If the families were spending upwards of a few hundreds a month (minimum) to put the kids through training to get to this level, I can't really see what the gripe about ticket prices is.

Yes, it would have been a nice touch, but someone else would be paying for the freebie, be it our taxpayers, or other ticket buyers.

No such thing as a free lunch, someone always ends up paying.

        Well Donw Isabelle ! :celebrate:
Indeed. Unflappable, but came up against a clearly better opponent.

Yes. Gu Yuting is a very good player. She is the World Number One under-15 player.

just wondering if she is pure home-grown kid, i.e. pure Singaporean?

For the moment, i thought she is 100% local till i saw her surename "Li"…

I'm surprised they are not the top few in the medals list.
