How are the other international events funding different from YOG? Is it not a mixture of sponsorship, host country investment and ticket sales?
The overseas participants n officials in YOG r covered for
all travel, lodgings n food expenses courtesy of IOC/SYOGOC.
This is a departure from d norm.
How many big international sponsors do you see
besides Coca Cola (a long time sponsor of d Olympics) n Samsung?
The rest (70+) are mostly local companies.
They together hv sponsored ~ S$50 mil as of last count.
Tickets sales?
Tickets cost about wat $10 -$30 ea?
taking an average of $20 / ticket, total ticket sales = 320,000 x $20
= ~ $6.4 mil
Slightly more than a quarter of these tickets were bought by MOE
to be distributed to students;
It's essentially left pocket money pass to right pocket,
all taxpayers' money, tio bo?

A couple of tickets to each match would not add up to $1200. If the families were spending upwards of a few hundreds a month (minimum) to put the kids through training to get to this level, I can't really see what the gripe about ticket prices is.
Spending $1,200 to support her brother in one event appears
to be on d high side.
~ 1/2 of the S'pore athletes r from d Sports School.
Not all hv d money to spend like u said.

Even if d families hv money to spend,
why gripe about a couple of free tickets in recognition

I read there is a KSP forummer whose neighbour's daughter
is an athlete representing Singapore.
Her parents r hawkers,
She helps out at d stall.
For these people, no work means no $$.
A hundred bucks would mean more food on d table.

Yes, it would have been a nice touch, but someone else would be paying for the freebie, be it our taxpayers, or other ticket buyers.

If u look at d quality of some of d athletes sent here,
u could possibly conclude some r here for an all expense paid holiday!

by way of free tickets is infinitesimal compared to what's
already been spent on this YOG.
