BigDad:
Hi BigDadHi Brenda10,
Thanks for your understanding, it is scary when I see primary 2 maths getting more difficult for him..how to help..I know it is easy for those who are good but those who are borderline..it also seems like a lot of the good tuition places focus on good students, are there those that can really help the weak ones? Was your child all along good?
Yes. I also very scare of maths especially those fraction and ratio. DD maths for CA1 and SA1 was still ok but I yet to see the CA2 that tested today. Don't know why the maths is so tough nowadays.
-
Nowadays primary 3 maths no longer on simple multiplication. When my P3 asked me on those \"tricky\" questions, I had to digest and think for a while before I can even solve it..... Sometimes I don't even know the solution  Imagine the kids have to do it during their exams. So exposure to such questions is important as it doesn't come as a surprise.
-
Problem is the exam has timing. If the child takes too long to think then the last few questions in Section C which are 5 marks may not have time to finish.

Poi Ching is just a stone's throw away from my block. I am Malaysia PR - Malay educated, thus do not know how to read or write Chinese.
What's the privilege of SAP? All of my friends say SAP schools are \"good\". Why? :? Just because they offer higher chinese? How about other subjects?
Can a child survive in SAP school without taking higher Chinese?
Am i :siao: if i avoid Poi Ching just because it's SAP? -

I have 2 elder children in 2 different SAP schools who did not take HCL. No problem there. My daughter just finished her O-level CL. She's still not taking HCL. Ds1 is taking HCL now in sec 1. Not his favourite subject though. He's still weak in it. -

My son has been taking Higher Chinese since P1 (compulsory). Children are intelligent and they will learn to handle. However, I will ask him to drop HCL next year...from what I heard, normal Chinese is not easy either with the new textbook. Anyway, will see how it goes after his SA2 exams.Poi Ching is just a stone's throw away from my block. I am Malaysia PR - Malay educated, thus do not know how to read or write Chinese.

Dear Janet
One of the stress parts is 作文.
Heard from the CL teacher for those who takes HCL, the expectation is 2.5 pages and CL would be 2 pages. All have to complete by 50 minutes and so more weighting 40 marks. -
The weightage for 作文 has dropped starting from this year’s SA2.
Oral marks has increased…my worry for son. Anyway, I don’t want him to continue with HCL next year as the subjects are tougher…why spend so much more time on one subject when the other 3 are equally tough. -
May be there is changes on the weighting of 作文, my nephew (P6) and dd (P5) are still under the old system.

Hhmm, i am concerned that those \"drop-out\" from HCL will be 2nd class citizen. I called Poi Ching before to check whether HCL is compulsory from P1. The person answered in very incredulous tone \"Must take HCL, if not , no point coming to Poi Ching'
