Any tips to improve Mathematics?

James Ang:
Normally I assume that my students are smarter than me because they do their level's Maths full time, so they are taught in school to handle difficult looking questions easily using models, heuristics, techniques etc. We must have faith in students to attempt difficult sums on their own, holding back difficult questions from students because parents find the sums too difficult may deprive the child of a learning opportunity. Have faith in your children, you will be surprised how much they can know more than their parents.
Totally second that.
Like most parents , i use alzebra for most questions. But now DD has moved on to understand where to use alzebra and where logically solutions work better.
And now i try to think like her - first see what is needed before going headlong to algebra. -

You are a hardworking mum, as in you will look into similar questions in sa2But, questions in there, heard some are really quite challenging.

Hi Leanne
Thank you and no choice as most of the people are scared of maths including of myself.
I have just flipped through one of the booklet - ratio and I believe dd should not have much difficulty to work on it. -
Thanks for sharing.
My child wants to try percentage instead cos that is the favourite topic.
I remember I read somewhere in the forum, someone was saying in the exam, fraction has more questions than ratio, can someone pls verify?thanks

I think ratio, fraction and percentage all are related.
In ratio booklet, I can see the question is mixed wiith ratio and fraction. -

Thanks for the pointers.
In that case, after percentage topic, I will get my child to try ratio topic, follow by whole number.thanks

Hi,
How about circles or area questions, sometimes I find it hard myself to see the shape especially if it is put into a different shape, it is a circles or area question but you do not know it then later you can see it. Sorry if I am not making myself clear but does anyone know what I am talking about? :?: -

anyway, circle/area questions are quite simple.... memorise the formula and you will never get it wrong...
basically, you need to remember the formula for area of circle, triangle, square and rectangle....that is all about it.... -
Hi Brenda.
How is the going for A star booklet/
We started on percentage. My child spent quite some time in doing it, finished till last section and gave up cos its so time consuming...we decided to KIV and do selectively whenever got times.

DD chooses to start with Geometry booklet. She has completed Symmetry, Tessellation and some angels questions yesterday.
I think this is also practical as now their topics after CA2 are Angles, Properties of Triangles, 4 sided figures, Geometrical construction, cube and cuboid etc.
Guess we should be able to complete this 1st booklet after the end of the topics.
We would carry on with the test papers and if there is any problem we would look into the booklet for similar solutions. -
Thanks for sharing.
My child only did a few angles questions, that is those that doesnt involves circle.
Hey, keep going...How was ca so far?
Cheers
