bought many fattening food such as pancakes, ice cream, puddings, hotdogs, nuggets etc.

I wanted to do this too, but hubby is against such unhealthy eating habits.

I regretted listening to my boys' PD. It does matter when they kept falling sick at least once a mth n not putting as much weight as they are eating. It all boils down to not absorbing the nutrients or digestive sys not working well. Now we are doing nursing back to proper health.

Really? How are you making them gain weight? Any medicine?

I now remember my cousin taking some medicine to kill worms in the tummy. She was really skinny last time and started to put on weight after the bout of medication. Wonder if I should get my son to see the doc.

Still working on this via TCM.

Does your child experience constipation regularly? Mine did when they were toddlers. Stupid of me not to link constipation n weak digestive sys then despite regular water intake n consumption of fruits n veg n seldom consumption of heaty food/deep fried items.[/quote]Aiyo, think my DD1 a bit different. :slapshead:

She eats a lot (2x Pediasure milk, 3 regular meals, teabreak and supper at times), sleeps very well (9.30pm to 7am and still take aftn nap in Childcare), even took the de-worm tablet (recommended by Paedi juz to be sure).

She also does not fall sick often like my DD2. In fact, when she contracted HFMD, it only lasted like 3 days as compared to DD2 (around 1 week plus). No digestive issue also, very regular bowel movement :imconstipated: (in fact all my kids rarely have constipation prob).

Maybe will try the cordyceps as recommended. Hope will put some weight into her. :xedfingers:

          sleepy:

My 6yo 123cm and 25kg, not sure whether considered big size :scratchhead: since many in kindy are around her height
          sleepy,
my 8yo is about that height, but 5kg lighter! :!:
          cherrygal:

My son is 109cm, 19kg... when he stands next to boys his age at kindy, he is one of the shortest and smallest. The doc said not to worry coz he is active but he is always at a disadvantage when he plays at downtown east or some kids playground. I always worry that he would be pushed down or trampled on.
          cherrygal,
my 4yo is the size of your 6yo.
not to his advantage cos while he is not malicious, he can be rough when playing with his smaller peers.
          cherrygal:
He eats like a snail at home... taking >1hr to finish his dinner, sometimes not even finishing the rice but I make him swallow the protein and veges.
          :!: 😐
my kids never eat more than half an hour; if they don't want to eat anymore, i will assess the reasons before releasing them to do their stuff.
          vicki:

I also dunno if it its genes (cos i quite tall for a gal 168cm but my dh is quite short for a guy (169cm) --> told dh its all his fault!!

Anywas, so as long as he eats normally and is healthy - i guess should be ok... πŸ˜‰
both my boys are 4yrs age gap, but most people thought it is only 2 yrs cos ds1 took on my childhood genes and is on the borderline underweight category and ds2 took on dh's childhood genes and is on the borderline overweight catergory. but now me and my dh both are on the average weight category ..... lolz. and after all the years of being labelled as underweight throughout our growing up years, all my siblings including me, are under the 'meaty' category now. lolz!

πŸ˜‰ haha... I was also against this at first but I read somewhere on the net that kids need the calories for brain development too. Those paeds also recommended feeding them these food items and have to do 3 meals + 3 tea breaks. Those stuff I mentioned are meant for the tea breaks. As long as the amounts are controlled and the weight gain monitored, I believe it is ok. And my DS' appetite is limited so he just takes 1 hotdog or 3 nuggets at most. My DS' own paediatrician also suggested giving belly pork! lolz

Regarding the β€˜unhealthy’ food, I think it’s alright in moderation.

My boy loves nuggets. We try to make our own nuggets but will use commercial ones at times. Same for hotdogs/sausages - we try to make meat loaf instead but we still give the commercial ones (boil longer so it’s not so salty).

However, I’ve not introduced him to sweets, chocolates and ice cream. My boy is the type who will not open his mouth if offered such sweet foods.

                  Mrswongtuition,
I just bought the EYS Sishen powder. The lady said to give 1/2 tsp with his rice. I forgot to ask if it's once a day or more. Do you give at lunch and dinner or just dinner? Any harm if taken more than once?

Wow, your boy so well trained? He won't eat even if offered ice cream? My son loves yoghurt and ice cream, thanks to my parents. My parents love to give such stuff to kids. But I am cool with such food as long as he finishes his proper meals. Thank God he doesn't like fizzy drinks.

Once a day is good enough. Preferably at breakfast so his appetite will increase by lunch and dinner.

Actually, my boy ate wasabi by accident when he was ard 1yo. Then he knows what is \"spicy\".
So when he sees chocolates, sweets or ice cream, we told him it's spicy!
At first he insisted, so I bought Mentoes extra mint, bite it into half and let him lick the inside (the part with the mentol). He immediately cry & asked for water. After that, he never eats sweets, chocolate or ice cream. Justtell him it's spicy will do the trick πŸ˜›

My DS is 3 yo, latest height is 100cm and weight 25 kg!

The PD kept scolding us that he is over-weight and please not to over-feed him. But then we didn't leh!

                      What he eat?

For first 10 months after he was born - breast-milk (suck non-stop I got no idea how many ML he was drinking sorry.....but he grew and grew nicely).

After he was weaned and went on solid food, we fed him mash carrots, peas, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, porridge (following the popular baby cook-book!).

When he was big enough to eat home-cook food (after 1 yo), we fed him porridge cook with cod fish, carrots and spinach vegetables. Alternate with porridge with chicken and beef. He ate nicely! Once he started eating 3 meals a day, we cut down his formula milk to only 2 times per day.

Right now at 3 yo, his diet is still porridge with fish, or rice with chicken soup, bee hoon with beef, hor-fun with slice fish, beef stew or ox-tail soup with rice, sausages with mash potatoes. He loves soup!

He hardly snacks on chocolates or sweets although he WILL eat if these are to be found!

We found he could be putting on weight due to drinking too much Ribena (we were trying to get him to drink more water actually!). Now we are cutting this down and he is gradually loosing the taste for it. He now has 2 water-bottles that we will make him drink from whenever he is thirsty. Going to school helps too because no sugar drinks in school is allowed!

                      :celebrate:

                        My son is 109cm, 19kg...
Hi, cherrygal. Glad that u started this thread. I almost wanted to start this qn as well. A consolation to you....

My triplet boys, in K2 now, turning 6 yo in 2 mths time are (105cm, 16kg), (103,14) and (103,13). I think no kids (healthy & born in 2004)can be smaller than them 😒 . They are born 2kg, 1.7 and 1kg only. My DS3 was only 4kg when he is 6mth old! Since born, he is always outside 3rd percentile in MOH chart.

I would like them to eat as much as they can but they seems to have small appetite since baby.
Now, they eat 3 square meals. I wouldn't dare to let them snack bec if they snack, they can't finish their meals. So no choice. Their afternoon tea break is just milk, fruits and 1 sweet.

Quite sad that they are the smallest in K2 and pple thot they are in N2 or K1 only. Sometime I just console myself that mother nature takes care of itself which allows a 40kg mummy to carry 3 toddlers at the same time, two 4yo at the same time and now still able to carry one.

I just started to try si sen on them now. Quite ex, $50 for a small portion. But if it works, definitely will be back to this thread to upldate all of u.
