7 New IP schools

Nebbermind:
That's a given, but how is introducing 7 new schools related to the MT issue?
believe this will depend on the competition amongst the applicants for these schools. COP i jus th T-scoe of the last person who gain etr to the schol, not something decided beforehandjtoh:
Wouldn't you still need to do reasonably well at PSLE to get into the IP schools? Why is the introduction of the 7 IP schools related to the MT issue? -
Nebbermind:
think we totally forgot how the new IP will affect the JCs. I believe that they will probably limit the no. of student in each school so that it will not impact too much on the JCs. Otherwise JCs will be 'unsubscribed'
top tier JC are already part of the IP system .....HCI/NYGH/HCJC and RI/RGS/RJC.
While VJC, TJC, NJC, DHS, RV are already IP on their own.....and once the new IP schools got their year 5 & 6 partners confirmed or announced tomorrow ...... the left behind JCs will have a hard time attracting top students there -
Is quite amazing that the attitude can change so drastically overnight. Just not long ago, they were vetting with utmost strict standard in order to grant IP to even just one more school. But now, they easily grant 7 more in one day.

It's not a sudden decision. The schools were in deep discussions with MOE for a long time. They already had wind of their impending IP status last year. It's just that MOE is announcing them all at the same time. -

your observation is not alone
anyway, if they are successfully implemented, it a good thing overall for the educational landscape of the country
Perhaps, per chance, PM Lee is telling those who clamour for the MT weightage reduction group of countrymen that it is not all hope lost. Now I give you 7 more IP schools......make sure you do well in sec 1 & 2 and cross over to the IP track ...... (just my imagination, lol) -

Well...I understand that these schools are already in deep discussion with MOE...it can't just happen suddenly...but even a few years back...they announce one school at a time....well...but maybe this observation is of trivial consequence.WeiHan:

Is the IP system really that novel?
In the older days before the JC system was introduced, didn’t all these high schools have a pre u section? and they don’t take "O" level? But go straight to "A" level or whatever they call it. -
IP may not really ensure that the life of a student would be smooth sailing. Some students may "slack off" or do other stuff instead of studying during the "O" level period.
Does everyone know the real reason of IP in schools like RI, HCI etc? The reason is that the "O" levels are simply too easy for the students. Thus, the school bypasses the "O" levels but the test papers that replace this national test is actually even more difficult.Being in IP also does not gurantee you a place in the JC. In HCI, you need to score an average of B3 to be eligible for the HCJC in which failing to do so will result you being kicked out from HCI.
Many people may see IP as a means to enter a JC effortlessly but the real purpose of IP to drill harder questions into the students. The "O" level is a national exam and must be moderated so that the weaker students would not do too badly. IP is just there so that the better students can do harder questions and of course, it also comes with its conditions such as like i stated before, an average of B3 for HCI.
IP is not for students to relax during the "O" level period, it is for them to train themselves for harder tasks, thus please do not think IP ensures you a direct admission into JC.
You have to work hard for it -

That's a given, but how is introducing 7 new schools related to the MT issue?[/quote]That's becos students who are weak in MT can apply thru DSA exercise to increase his chances of admitting into IP sch. Eg, a student who is strong in Math or Science or Sports, etc... but is weak in MT, will have higher chances of entering a good IP school compared to if he competes with others using this PSLE T-score.

Very well said. Totally agree.IP may not really ensure that the life of a student would be smooth sailing. Some students may \"slack off\" or do other stuff instead of studying during the \"O\" level period.
