Sorry for jumping in here. Have been reading the posts :-). It is not that MOE has not invested the resources in govt schools. Some schools with long history have strong support from their alumni. Popular schools attract students from better family backgrounds and the parents are very supportive of the schools. Influential alumni and parents help to lobby for what they want :-). This is something that most govt schools are lacking in. Being a principal of a popular school is not easy. Have to manage the expectations of all the stakeholders.

Strange that still no news online.....waiting for the evening news now....
exactly

you said it very well

Every sch has its own merits. We should cheer for 7 new IP schs, giving our next batch of P6 more choices. Hopefully the current Sec 1 and 2s can benefit too.

Just wondering if they are ready to implement it so soon. Else by then the current Sec 1 & 2 have turn sec 3 & 4 to prepare for 'O' level liao.

no worry, can also enter IP at sec 3 ..... just produce good result, and doors will open

therefore cannot sleep / play for 3 years then cheong one year for O levels

That only shows three points which one of them must be correct

1. The government has send lesser quality management staffs to government schools.

2. MOE centralised managment of our education system has room for improvement.

3. MOE did not provide government schools with equivalent resource which like first point that our government is elitist.

Moreover, you miss my point. Certain schools being better managed than government schools didn't disqualify my point that it benefits richer people more.

government aided schools are helped very much by their board of governors / directors / alumni and management committee (some are descendants of the school founders)....purely government schools do not have such - you are just not born with it.

I don't disqualify your point.

RI / RGS / RGPS being government schools also benefit many many and a lot of rich people wat ....

Hi,

I hope by giving an example, you can see my point more clearly.

For example, I score 252 for my psle. Clearly, I do not qualify for RGS or NYGH or DHS or even RV.

With these second batches of approved IP schools, I stand a better chance of enjoying IP. However, these are independent schools which demand a high school fees and I cannot afford. Neither is my result good enough to get a MOE scholarship which require aggregate of 262 or 263. I'll have to choose Nan Hua, CGS instead which did not get IP status because of my financial disadvantage. My classmate who also score 252 but has a rich daddy is considering joining MGS or SCGS. I am so disappointed....

The 2010 School achievement Table for Special/Express Course (like this http://www.moe.gov.sg/media/press/files/2009/09/moa-2009-annex-e1.pdf) based on individual school's academic performance in 2009 \"O\" level exams has not been released yet. However, you may look at some of these schools' websites to find their banding status, so these are the schools that attained Band 1 (Ave L1B5 less 11) for last year's \"O\" level results (2009) so far:

Based on 2009 \"O\" level results
1. Anderson Sec - 10.4
2. Catholic High - 9.1 / 343 candidates
3. Crescent Girls' - Don't know
4. Nan Chiau High - 10.9
5. St. Joseph Institution - 10.8
6. Victoria Sch - 10.7

There maybe more than the above mentioned 6 schools like Cedar Girls, St Nicholas Girls, SCGS, MGS etc that had attained band 1 status and so pls wait for MOE to release the official school achievement table 2010.

Based on \"O\" level results from 2003 to 2008 with schools that had attained band 1 status

Cedar: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
CHIJ St Nic: 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
SCGS: 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
Anglican High : 2004
Catholic High: 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008
Victoria: 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008
Anderson: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
Crescent Girls: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
Xinmin: 2005, 2006, 2007
Chung Cheng High (Main): 2006
MGS: 2006, 2007, 2008
SJI: 2007, 2008
TKGS: 2007, 2008
Zhonghua: 2007
Bukit Panjang Govt High: 2008

Pls help to correct the above list if any errors.

VC's mum
Thanks VC's mum for the research. 🙂

now if you maintain your performance in Sec 1 Sec 2, you can still DSA into those IP schools, and apply for bursary from the school

in the first place did you explore with the schools like MGS / SCGS whether they have bursary for you if you get admitted into their school? I am sure school fees is least of the concern if you can qualify.

I know for sure because I happen to take part in fund raising for those top schools who need to support their students who has financial disadvantage in terms of school fees. they care for those who don't come from rich family

i suggest you go approach those school again via DSA into ther Sec 3 - hope not too late for you.

In addition, with the addition of these 7 new IP schs, who is to say that the existing batch of IP schs may not lower COP entry standard? Eg. RV is far for most except those staying in Boon Lay. With the introduction of these new IP sec, maybe more kids will opt for the new IP sec and RV COP might drop.

that is what I thought. Some schools' COP will drop with the 7 new IP schools coming up
My friend’s son scored 25+ and couldn’t get a place at HCI. He went to his second choice which is a ‘band 1’ school. He scored 7A1s for O levels and went to RI (JC). If now, he would have gotten into one of the new IP schools and missed his opportunity of studying at RI. It is messy.

why go to one of the new IP schools?

he can still do exactly the same thing now; go to a band 1 school > score 7A1s > RJC. 😛

how many can have 7A1s reduced to 3 points for L1R5 in order to enter RI J1 ?
aiyaa, not trying to figure out how many can get to 3 pts la, just commenting on this one very specific case 😉

But there is already precedence that selection of IP school is not based purely on academic results. ACSI wasn't even in the top 10 list before they got their IP status. I think MOE also consider the school strength in putting up a good viable programme.

Based on info from MOE's website:

Ranking of ACS(I) from 1994 to 2002 based on \"O\" level results
1994: 11th placing - 2.50/393
1995: 12th placing - 2.50/416
1996: 14th placing - 12.2/445
1997: 14th placing - 12.4/436
1998: 8th placing - 11.3/436
1999: 10th placing - 11.5/447
2000: 10th placing - 11.5/437
2001: 9th placing - 11.0/422
2002: 9th placing - 11.5/444

No ranking for them from 2003 onwards due to their IP status.
