Any tips to improve Mathematics?

Hi Brenda 10
I must say your nephew Maths exam has improved tremendously. Did your nephew join the speedmaths camp ? -
LE ANN:
No. Just practice more. Understand he still had the last 4 questions (19 marks) didn't know how to do despite he still had enough time left. Therefore my brother plans to drill him more on this area ( 4 & 5 marks questions). Hopefully he is able to solve those questions in the coming PSLE.Hi Brenda 10

A* booklets - what’s the best time to start the kids on them ? Some of the topics like decimals and factions - the foundations are introduced in P4.

My nephew's school asked them to get it at P6 as a preparation for PSLE. I also get one set two weeks ago after Mr. James Ang had recommended for dd (P5) to try. I'm not maths expect but however I feel is better to understand the ratio and percentage topics while doing the fraction booklet. This is because I notice one of the questions in fraction booklet dd had actually solved it by ratio method. Therefore I guess by knowing more depth details on fraction and ratio (cover in P5A) and percentage (P5B) would help them to gain more exposures and hence can apply various strategies in solving the questions. Also a few questions in whole number booklet also involved average (P5B). Therefore I would think is still alright to start at P5 but end of the day is still up to individual’s choice.
The above are just my 2 cents thought and hope is useful. -
Just to comment on the similarity of the questions… fractions, ratios and percentage are actually all related. Similar models could be drawn to solve questions for these 3 topics. fractions can easily be changed to ratio and vice versa. Percentage can also be changed into fraction.
Thus, if a child has a strong foundation in fraction and ratio, then percentage will not pose much of a problem. -
I agreed that fraction, ratio and percentage are interlinked.
I dont understand why my child enjoys fraction so much that many a times just refused to use ratio to solve a problem.I find that sometimes, using model, the model itself is hard to split and solve.Taught the easiest way out but still so sturbbon…Can someone pls help.Thanks. -

How old is your boy?
I think you should let your boy attempt full examination papers, it will be of better accuracy.
