      ....
The daughter of Mrs V. Siba, 44, scored four points - a raw score of eight with a deduction of four points for Higher Mother Tongue and CCA - and still could not get into Victoria JC.
      ...

Looks like it is not enough to just get the min cut-off listed for the JC. I wonder how does the JC pick from the pool of '4pointers'? Do they look at raw score first, then deduct HMT, then CCA , then affiliation bonus points or some other order - maybe affiliation points first? What internal rules and order of deduction do they apply?

Maybe instead of publishing the cut off points after bonus deduction, it may be more useful for the top JCs to also publish their cut off based on raw scores.

to me knowledge, after bonus points, the students with the same points are on par with each other....
it is either vjc cut-off is 3 pts or there was a mistake with the girl who was rejected.

(ASSUME the rejected put VJC is 1st choice...., some people say a lot then people realised they did not even put their 'preferred school' as 1st choice.... then just accidentally cause the confusion)

if 1st choice and 4 points still cant get in Victoria JC (& assume COP is indeed 4 for that year), one logical conclusion should be the affiliated school points students get priority IF both have same COP ... if JC is VJC then priority goes to VS... for CJC then for priority for SJI/ Cath High/ CHIJ students etc.... i saw in VJC website that Victoria School's 2 point bonus is ONLY applicable IF VS students placed VJC as 1st CHOICE .... \"if so strict\" a condition...(i am not sure is it SAME for other affiliated schools, so strict too ? or 2nd choice still applicable?) maybe VJC would indeed rank affiliated school 4 pointers above the non affiliated student in \"no more space\" situation ; .....

another possibilty could it be that VJC prioritise taking in students that USE LESSER bonus points to reach the Aggregate? [HMT,CCA etc...?]... that would ensure they take in students that less likely to \"cock up\" in A level.... i mean they would prefer taking a student using just 2 bonus points i.e. REAL 6 pointer (to reach 4 in aggregate) than to use 4 bonus points i.e. REAL 8 pointer (to reach 4 in aggregate).....

          from SAJC website.... ,

          12.
Is there any advantage if I am from one of SAJC’s affiliated schools?

Students from affiliated schools get 2 bonus points when they choose SAJC as their first choice. Our affiliated schools are Anglican High School, Christ Church Secondary School, Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School, Presbyterian High School, St. Andrew’s School, St Hilda’s Secondary School and St Margaret’s Secondary School.

          ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
hence NOT only VJC imposed the must be 1st CHOICE for her only affiliated school (Victoria School)

but i read elsewhere online ... for JCs : 2 bonus points applicable if either 1 choice or 1 & 2nd ...... hence minimum affiliated students must be place affiliated JC in top 2 choices to be useful (at least)...MUST CHECK the JC's website to be sure is it Top choice OR top & 2nd Choice

We are talking about smart kids with PSLE 250 points and above here. So good exam results is a given for them, and what will be critical is whether they are equipped with the necessary life skills for success in life. Hence in my view, what will differentiate one IP from another is the school's emphasis on developing the kids holistically, imbuing them with self confidence, communication and leadership skills etc. This is where I feel schools which have deep traditions, strong character and good networks will have an advantage.

It seems to me that MOE has deviated from the IP principle by coming out with funny partnerships which will make it difficult for true integration to take place. Even RI and RGS have to take many years before their IP is truely integrated. To do so for schools without common history and ties will be even more challenging. Good luck to all of them.
            very much agree.
hopefully, these smart kids will find their way across the gaps,
until such time when integration is really integrated into the Integrated Program.
hopefully after not too long a time. 🙏

That this year’s President’s Scholars come from not a single school, but a number of different schools/JCs is also telling. As parents, we really should be looking beyond cut-off points when deciding on which school or IP is best suited for our kids.

For the same reason, I commend MOE for extending IP to more schools, which will mean more choices of programmes for students and greater diversity in our education system.

Your analysis of which partnerships are more superior is just wild speculation without strong validity of arguments. How do you know the combis of scgs-st nick-chs will not work? Hve you considered the amount of time and financial support to be provided for this marriage? You are only assuming your conceptual skills more superior than the combine boards of these three top 0-level schools.

arent we people here simply writing our \"speculation\" and opinions here ? (wild or not wild is up to the reader ) ... i am just giving my personal opinion...and definitely SUBJECTIVE OPINION .. parents or students looking here are NOT stupid, they can make up their own mind.

I based my opinion on the fact that parents do not like uncertainty and JC that is not established (despite having \"IP status\" should counter abit of that effect) and the fact that those 3 CHS, SNGS and SCGS while all being top schools with good name, their SCHOOL NAME, BRAND RECOGNITION & culture cannot be transferred to the new public JC unlike SJI, ACS(i) or Dunman High........this could lead to students either not wishing to enter them after Pri6 or could leave after Sec4.... (note: those IP schools new ones are DUAL Track....can switch back to O lvl ... even if they are on IP still, i am sure if any IP student is truly talented, other established name JC WOULD NOT MIND them switching over at J1 or J2 if they are CHS or SNGS's IP students)

i already said quite abit...any one who is keen can go back to read my previous SUBJECTIVE COMMENTS :salute:

if Sir or Madam INNOVATE have any positive 100 percent SOlidly TRUE info to share on the the new PUBLIC JC OR any subjective / biased opinion to share on why the new IP jc will DEFINITELY WORK... please share with every one , subjective views also can, Discussion and conjecture here only, WE R NOT GOD, so we can't crystalball the future... :celebrate:

This argument is making me absolutely bemused.. You are really silly if you can't see why these 3 brand name schools are partnering. The MOE has already given the rationale for them to create a new school instead of joining an existing school: TO CREATE SOME COMPETITION FOR THOSE TOP JCS. The govt could have just chucked them into some random JC and called it an 'IP JC', but why not? BECAUSE IT DEFEATS THE ABOVEMENTIONED PURPOSE.

And if you think the new school is not going to have any link to these existing 3 schools, you are so terribly wrong. Obviously the IP board of these schools will design a seamless curriculum and a school that has a shared heritage and culture (CHS and SNGS have already a shared heritage) In fact, there is much discussion on who from those 3 schools will head the combined school. Do note that 20% of the places will be reserved for O level students.

CHS and SNGS are the 2 BIGGEST FEEDER SCHOOLS FOR O LEVEL into schools like RJC. By removing them to start a new school, other O level schools will be able to send their students there, hence levelling the playing field.

In fact, tell me what is so different about this new school compared to SJI's Year 5/6 program that makes it, I quote, 'superior'?
