Are the punctuation marks correctly placed in the brackets? Thanks.

I think it is not necessary to use ! for Q1.
I can accept ! for Q2 but I am not a teacher.
For Q3, it looks ok to use a ,

I am a Chinese tutor teaching at the TAS. Hope my comments below helps.

1) This depends on the context in which you are using the sentence. It is not wrong to use the exclamation but there should be a reason for using it, such as adding to the emotion or the expression of the 'I' in the story. I will not mark it as wrong. E.g. If the sentence follows through with 我的妈妈最疼我了！You can see it will be perfectly fine and in fact adds to the 'colour' of the writing.

2) No problem with the exclamation at all. You are expressing excitement and interest at the dog's action. In fact, it will look strange if it ends with a full stop cos it does not convey the emotion of the writer.

3) The comma is correct. It breaks up 2 phrases which describes 2 separate actions. Remember that Chinese is a language that is 意合。In other words, you can run on with a flow of thoughts with commas that cannot be done with English (which is 行合）E.g. 我回到家里，脱了鞋，穿过了大门，爬上楼梯时，赫然发现家里有点不对劲。

He is resistant to writing it becos in the first place, he probably loathes the language. My daughter is not much better since she's not proficient in the language. What I am doing is trying to get her to read as many Chinese books as possible to stimulate that interest first. Reading definitely must come first before the kid is willing to write.

He is certainly not only one! But any skill of composition will not be devloped by one day. try to help him by writing bit by bit. Like a sentence, a situational writing, or 流水账。keep it up week by week, he will surely improve. Besides, read more with him. If you don't have time, the last resort will be sending him to Tien Xia language Centre! They do have a pretty good prgm for writing and comprehension.

Hi,


would like to suggest a Chinese play that is worth watching in Singapore and highly recommended for kids to get to be interested in Chinese. It is the story of 孙悟空 and 白骨精, a very familiar story for most of us. They had performed this in the Huayi festival 2009 and received positive feedback and they are back this year. There are not many children Chinese plays around. So, would really encourage parents out there to bring your kids down.

Would like to know at which level does the primary school (schools which do not offer Higher Chinese at P1) start offering Higher Chinese(HCL) to the students who are good in CL.


Also, I understand that school offering HCL at P1 would also start dropping HCL for the weaker students at a certain level, may I know which level would that usually be?

Should be end of P4. The school will recommend the students on 5 subjects (inclusive of HMT), 4 subjects or subjects mixed with foundation subjects when they are going for P5.
