Q1 answer is\"...one of the people who ARE...\"
In this case, the subject is 'people' as the 'who' is referring to them. However, if it is 'one of the people, my uncle, ___ very compassionate.', the ans should be 'is'.
my DS is v v sure of his answer/explanation above cos he sat for this paper and he has the right anwers for this NYPS prelim paper from the sch itself.[/quote]Hi Ler,
The answer like everyone here says is \"ARE\" as we follow the word-
people. The focus is on 'people' and not 'one'.
This is a complex grammar structure that I noticed schools like to test kids
on, poor kids. Seems like they are always thinking of ways to make it
harder. -

you have to strike out \"my cousin and\". So it cannot be Me went to the botanic garden last evening. It should be I went to the botanic garden last evening -
\"I\" -noun used as subject in sentence structure. \"me\" - noun used as object.
So it should be \"my cousin and I\" went to e garden. \"my cousin and I\" are the subjects in this sentence.
Another sentence to illustrate : my mother loves my brother and...
Here the answer will be \"my brother and me\"
Hope this helps.

Hi Krazy! Tx. Need to clarify the sentence below.
My mum brought my brother and me to the zoo yesterday. Me is correct right? Can advise? Tx -
Yes you are right..
[my mother]
noun/ subj
[brought] verb
[my brother and me]
noun/ object
[to the zoo yesterday.]
prep phrase / adverbial
once the pronoun is in the object position, it has to take object form. so for pronouns like \"she\" - it will be \"her\" which is the pronoun in its object form.
\"he\" - will become \"him\" and for the same reason as above.
