Any P1 kids having tution/enrichment?

It very much depends on what is done during the tuition lessons.


For my students, parents' main concern is the lack of a formal textbook for English. They are clueless as to how to guide their kids or what to teach them. As such, they turn to tuition for help.

For P1, I go through mostly basic grammar and vocabulary during the first semester. Second semester focuses on writing, comprehension and synthesis & transformation.

For Maths, basic concepts are done together with Problem Solving and heuristics. Many kids that come to me can't even add/subtract numbers within 10 without using their fingers. In such cases, they might not be able to catch up in school as the teacher goes through the first 2 topics rather quickly.


If your child can do the following, then I think there's no immediate need for tuition:
English
- Read well without guidance
- Understand basic grammar rules (singular, plural, subject-verb agreement)
- Able to write a short story with at least 3-5 sentences
E.g.
I am May. I am a girl. I am six years old. I go to Bobo Kindergarten. I love my school.

Maths
- Able to count, add and subtract up to 20
- Able to spell numbers up to 20
- Able to read and comprehend simple story sums
E.g.
Tom has 3 green balloons. He has 5 red balloons.
How many balloons does he have altogether?

I think you assessments are very fair. We need to know the strength and weakness of our child in order to decide the next cause of action.

I agree with mrswong. very fair assesment. if the kids are not able to do the things that are mentioned by Mrswong, parents cah consider tuition.

Good tutors are hard to find and usually at this time of the year, they are swamped with students/parents booking extra lessons to prepare for the upcoming PSLE/SA2.

You might get better luck calling on the first day of PSLE of first day of SA2.

Also, for good tuition, you might need to travel. It's very common for parents to shuttle their kids all over Singapore for tuition/enrichment. I do see many students who travel from all over Singapore.

For english - you can consider centres in East point at Simei like Morris Alle or British council in Tampines Mall. For Maths, there is Maths arena in tampines. all these centre are pricey.

Hello! all above are enrichment classes. It may get more works for the kids. sigh!
Tution, still the best. @ the same time can cope homeworks in School. for those working-parents. isnt.
But of cos cannot rely all as we parents still have to go through all homeworks:( :roll:

I used to think and still think maybe the best way for working parents is to have a governess for the kids (like olden days). The governess can then be in charged of the kid's teaching and learning, homework, etc. But where to find such governess? Maybe can consider offering such service :lol:
