All About Life Without Maids
-
I told my maids NEVER to mix up the cloths - kitchen cloth for wiping table and drying bowls/plates. Floor cloth for wiping up stain/juice on the floor. NEVER MIX. So I have diff colour for diff purpose.
Can die getting instructions INTO their thick skull. -
I never had a maid when I grew up and as a SAHM for the past 11 years with 3 kids, never had one till 3 weeks ago…just delivered my 4th kid, 3rd is 18th months so forced to get a maid from hubby and my own mother cuz if not she will nag at me till she gives me a heart attack but I totally agree that though tiring, I’d rather not have a maid cuz now I am getting paranoid (in my other post about maid issues). Thinking of letting her go than I will have peace of mind.
Hubby is working in KL and I am alone with 4 kids and have to mind a maid now. -

Mrs Ang,
If the maids had used the softener for their hair and skin, then perhaps they will smell nicer.
My previous maid like to use my kitchen fruit knife as a screwdriver, can opener, dirt digger (whatever that for) and everything else EXCEPT to cut a fruit. -

4 kids + maid :udawoman: -
Mum had first Indon maid many years back, she was like another daughter - 18 year old ‘daughter’. No joke. When she doesn’t have her menses, she worked pretty well. But when her menses came, she would sit down one corner to cry…being just 18, it was understandable.
noiximl,
4 kids and another ‘kid’. You are amazing. -

Wow I really take my hat off to you! I always amazed at how mums cope with full time job, more than 1 kid, and housework. Dads of course do their part too, but in most cases (I'm sure you all agree), the responsiblity always fall more on the mums to take care of the kids and the house.I thik i have repeated this many times.
I am a FTWM with 3 kids 6, 4 and 2 and i do not have maid or PT help. Everyone chip in and daddy is the driver who goes around Singapor to pick the kids up from classes and childcare centres. No doubt it is tiring but we are very much happier without a maid. I have maids for close to 3 years and has done without one for same time. Even during the confinement period for youngest, i did not engage anyone except catering for confinement food. The biggest hurdle for us till now is the logistic issue on picking up and caring for children. How to pick up the kids if hubby is overseas or need to work on weekends when the kids go for their enrichment classes. Otherwise, everyone plays their part including the 2 yr old. She knows she need to put her milk bottle on the table after she finishes her milk. All these are taught when they attend childcare centres. The older 2 kids pack their bag every morning. If they forget anything, they just have to face the consequences on their own.
Of course it is not impossible to do it without maids. You are proof of this and an inspiration! It's not easy though I'm sure. It means you have to let go, don't worry too much, and like you said, if they forget to bring things to school, they have to learn and face consequences. Sometimes as parents, we're too protective and always worry about our kids, want to do everything for them.
If and when the 2nd one comes, I think I also want to try to manage without maid and see how it goes. -
If the maid can really help, then of course it is great !!! But imagine if she is giving trouble instead, you’ll be having 5 kids instead.
Without a maid, do not expect the house to be spotless.
