      2DMommy:
      Mr Muthu bought a refrigerator worth $1450 with his monthly salary. After spending 1/6 of his remaining salary on a digital camera, he had 5/8 of his salary left. What was Mr Muthu's salary?

      Salary = s

      (s-1450)5/6 = 5s/8

      8s - 1450x8 = 6s

      s = 5800

        Thank you for working out the answer. Can work out without using equation?

          Hi 2DMommy

          I do not know how to post the model here but I hope you can understand my working.

          5/8 of his salary left --- there is a total of 8 units for his salary
          after he bought the refrigerator $1450
          1/6 of remaining salary on digital camera, so left 5/6 of remaining salary
          5/6 of remaining salary is equal to 5/8 of salary
          so that means he spend 1/8 of salary on digital
          so 2/8 of salary ---- $1450
          1/8 of salary ----$1450/2 = $725
          Muthu's salary ---- $725 x 8 = $5800

                Hi liketoeat

                3 x 2 x 3 = 18 ways

                You can also list out and do different combinations you will also get 18.

                  The length of a rectangle is thrice its breadth. If the lenth of of the rectangle is x cm, find the perimeter of the rectangle.(leave your answer in terms of x)

                  is this way excepted?

                  1 rectangle ---------> 2x + 2/3 x

                  3 rectangle----------> 6x+ 6/3 x = 8x

                  8x/3 ( 1 rectangle)

                  is this accepted instead of 2+2/3 x?

                  thanks

                    Hi beauty queen

                    I have raised this question in this forum before and confirm with the school maths teacher. Yes, you have to simplify 2x +2/3x to 2 2/3 x or 8/3 x.

                        Box A contains some 50 cents and Box B contains some 20 cents coins. There are 8 more coins in Box B than in Box A. The amount in Box A is $6.50 more than the amount in Box B. How many 50 cents coins are there in Box A?

                        Thanks.
