HyperKiasu:
depending on grade and market sentiment, recession or not, whether it is certified by well known authorityHi,
Any idea how much has diamond appreciated in value over the past 5 years? depending on the grade ?
it is not easy to sell second hand diamond because in the first place, it is a high profit margin product
in fact, in the last 5 years, from my observation, retail diamond price has dropped, cheaper to buy the same grade same carat today than 5 years ago = depreciation -
i only know 2nd hand diamond depreciate as fewer ppl is willing to buy...
but did not realize that new diamond devalues in the past...
today just passed by one jewelry shop, was interested in a very very beautifu burmese ruby ring with two diamonds engraved beside the ruby.... was told by the staff that diamond appreciated as well as gold....
i resisted the temptation as i recalled some reports that most of the rubies in the market are enhanced in some way (hi-tech mah)...beautiful and 100% natural rubies are very very rare...which at the same time are subject to downward price pressure due to people's confidence in the \"gem grade\"...
(one high-end jewerly shop in the US - forgot the name-, is reported to sell burmese ruby which was later found to have glass fillings, though the ruby are certified...)
O.T...

You can look the staff in the eye and tell him that he either has no idea what he is saying or was just trying to sell you a load of hogwash.

Diamonds are never bought for investment, meaning it will not retain its value. Itβs just the marketersβ ploy to get women to buy diamonds (diamonds are a girlβs best friend). In times of war, only gold holds value or appreciates. Buy gold. BTW, gold is very expensive now.

anyway, i only have one diamond ring and rarely wear it....
more interested in color stone...but now perhaps 99% \"gem stones\" are synthetic ones....
(even gold are fake, the other day watched the channel 8 news about the Hi-Tech gold was found in HK market...) -

For the fun of it, I shall borrow this question from a recent channel U talk-show.
If your dh give you a choice to choose one of the two options below as a birthday gift, which would you choose ( only one choice allowed, cannot have both) ?
1. A 3 carat diamond ring that costs SGD150, 000
2. SGD150,000 cold hard cash
