Draw a model for the before transfer of water from jug to kettle

              _____ 420ml
              _____

150ml transferred from jug to kettle will result in the model changed to

              150 420 150

The original _____ now split into __ +150 for kettle

so 150 + 420 + 150 = 720 will be divided by 3 (the difference between the kettle and jug)

              Jug has 240ml

                Hi
                Hope this helps.

You may use a heuristics known as Making a Supposition or Assuming Method.

Suppose all the 17 pupils are girls.

                17*7 = 119
                119 – 105 = 14 (fewer clips)

Each boy has 2 fewer clips.
                Number of boys = 14/2 = 7

                Number of girls = 10
Number of clips held by girls = 7*10 = 70

Hence each boy will get 70/7 = 10 clips (more)

                Best wishes

                  Hi

Are the bookmarks given to Geraldine or Shanthinee?

Please confirm if the numbers are 128 and 1/4.

                  Best wishes

From Ai Tong Pri 3 SA1 Maths:

A teacher gave her students some balloons. If she gave 6 balloons to each student, she will have 2 balloons left. If she gave 8 balloons to each student, she will be short of 2 balloons. What is the smallest possible number of students she has?

I'll probably use trial and error method and hope that she is not giving out >100 balloons.
                    Ans: 2 students...correct?

The question can be solved easily using logic. This is how I explain to my students:

If the teacher gives 6 ballons to each student, she will have 2 left. When she gives two more to each one, she not only uses up the 2 she had left previously, she is going to need 2 more. So, she needs 4 more to make it happen. In that case, she must have given to 2 students since 2 x 2 =4. I prefer to train logic. It makes the kids stronger fundamentally.
Anyway, model-drawing and listing can solve the question too.

                    Therefore, my working is:
                    8-6=2
                    2+2=4
4 divided by 2=2 (students) (answer)

hi bookwormkids, this has a multitude of answers. Maybe the book just picked one of those. Examples of answers would be: 115, 226, 337, 448, 559
