        Nanyang principal's story

'Mrs Lee presented her with a cane and requested that she use it, if necessary, for disciplining her son.'

DR REUBEN WONG: 'Listening to the eulogies to Mrs Lee Kuan Yew, one is saddened yet inspired by the principles which guided her life. My grandmother, the late Madam Cho Han Wah who was a long-serving headmistress of Nanyang Primary School, often recounted the time when Mrs Lee's eldest son, Hsien Loong, was admitted as a pupil in her school. Mrs Lee presented her with a cane and requested that she use it, if necessary, for disciplining her son who, as we know, grew up to be the Prime Minister of Singapore. Fortunately, this was never required. This and anecdotes about my grandmother's subsequent meetings with Mrs Lee spoke volumes of the values which she held fast to, and undoubtedly instilled in her children.'

The PSLE may be just half way through

But not too early to thank the teachers who have worked so hard to prepare the kids for the first major exam in their life, some say this is the new O Levels.

Things they have done that we are aware of :

          1. As early as a year ago, parents were briefed by the subject teachers on the individual’s weakness in each subject area, and ways to remedy them

          2. Individual target setting with form teachers and subject teachers

          3. Pri 6 meet the parents session continue with feedback on (1) above, and individual "customised" action-area approach by some teachers

          4. Extra lessons during the holidays to tackle areas of weakness

          5. DSA talks like interview skills

          6. Key words and key notes for individual subjects, pointers and reminders

          7. Email and sms support by teachers 24/7 in case any questions need to be clarified

          8. On exam day, every student gets a brand new pencil for the OAS, just in case any student has forgotten to bring…so very thoughtful!! and they were told to go to the teachers for any stationery they may have forgotten to bring…

These teachers are just so incredibly thoughtful to the minutest details

We as parents are touched by what the teachers have done.

Thank you, teachers of NYPS ! Our kids will recall with fond memories their days in NYPS and how wonderful their teachers have been to them.

You mean the teachers stayed up all night checking their email? This is the new benchmark. I am very impressed.

Stay up all nite or not I won't know ..... They do email out ppt quite late for the reminder points - may be due to late request lah (student slacking)

They can ask teachers any time
