I heard from a friend that many PH pupils are attending lessons with them. How big is the class now? When I enquired, the staff told me if the class is big, there will be an assistant teacher to guide the children. So the bigger class has at least 2 teachers now?

Yes, it's true that many PH pupils are with TAS. Though ds is k2, he got upgraded into the sat p1 class after a successful pre-enrollment assessment quiz. Out of the 7 kids in that class, at least 3 are existing PH students (that's how I got to know php personally). Not surprising as the ctr is at BTSC, so near PH.

The ctr's policy is to have a max of 8 kids per teacher. If a class has more than 8 kids (up to max of 16), there will be an additional assistant teacher to help out. But personally I find that as their classes are highly interactive, it is difficult to maintain control of more than 8 kids all trying to participate at the same time. DS seems to enjoy the lessons as he loves to talk in class.

I definitely hope that he can get into top 3 classes but not quite possible unless he improve tremendously in SA2...a more realistic target would be in Hope....

Hi VbusyMum, the top 3 classes require at least 90% overall. SA2 is 70% weightage so if your ds can score for SA2, it can make a difference to his overall marks. All the best! :rahrah:

Yup, all the best to our children for this SA2. EL compo tomorrow. This yr end exam is the BIG one...like it or not, work hard and then it's the end of the year.

Has anyone tried the Han Language centre Compre and compo Course? Is it any good? My girl is not so good at chinese compre as she can't understand what is the passage all abt so thinking of giving her some booster.

Since your child is in PHPPS, I am assuming you are staying near the school. For compo, you can try Busy Bee at Rail Mall.
They are in the midst of expanding, so next year enrollment should be able to accommodate more student - hopefully minus waitlist

Hi Janet...my 2 cents...It all depends on how strong he is in the language at current. It will help if he is aiming for SAP/IP sec. Also, since HCL is taught during curriculum time, then it shouldn't affect his revision time for his other subjects. However, it doesn't mean that without HCL, the kid will not be accepted in SAP sec. Ultimately, the PSLE score will determine the Sec. your ds will attend.

The best person to advise should be your ds's CL teacher, as she will know whether he can cope with HCL based on his current standard.

Totally agreed. Besides .. the exposure is different in different classes.
If you read through all the pages in this thread, you will also know that a parent with twins studying at diff classes, has diff lvl of homework.

Basically, I think PHPPS stream them into 3 band.
For P1 and P2, 4 classes in each band.
So the top 4 classes might be exposure to more learning based on their ability to cope with the schoolwork.

My son is getting the high end of 70 for this year…so I’m rather concerned whether to continue to HCL next year. I’ve been hearing 2 sides - if he can continue with HCL, let him do so since he has tuition and HCL is not that different (that’s what I was told) but on the other hand, P5 is a big jump from P4 and kinda like preparation for P6, so I don’t want him to have to spend more time on one subject at the expense of the others.
