      Hi comfy,

E3 has put in a lot of effort and time on her daughter…it’s really hard to match up to her. Her efforts have been proven as her daughter is doing very well…something I would have to learn as my daughter is going to P1 next yr.

i was at Sentosa last night with a HOD and several PV to do risk assessment prior to our event in Nov. my dd's classmate father was telli ng me that he get used to reading those messages written by her teacher in the comm book. But one message was quite interesting...\"so and so, your boy was caught using the word CRAZY during assembly. please counsel him.\"...something like that, can remember the exact words....

markfch, your turn will come....haha.....i got a few too....then you have more strategies to work on.....
DS likes to use the phrase 'what the hack' now. He said he learnt it from one of his childcare classmates. I actually thought 'crazy' is an acceptable word to use. But then again, I maybe quite indulgent in this aspect. The only phrase I stopped ds from using is 'oh my god' due to personal reason.

          markfch,

My son in P4 uses the same phrase you mentioned. Of late, I’ve gotta control myself when angry bcos the kids have picked up ‘SH!@’ as well.

            E3:
During exams, they will usually perform differently, at least that's what I hope for my dd. Take heart. My dd's compositions are usually printed as one of the models for her classmates. As at last evening, she still took EXACTLY 50 mins to complete her composition....cold sweat...in the day, she took 15 mins more so she asked for another practice last evening. She is writing another one now. After that, I'll go thru some pointers with her.

For SA1, I was like a cat on a hot tin roof cos she thinks and writes very cautiously which can take up precious time unknowingly, but she managed to complete 10 mins before time's up and scored well. Phew! I could tell that her standard has improved over the months for this SA2 (so have her classmates) but my only concern is still her time-management.... 🙏
Really :udawoman: , your DD must be one hardworking child! I can't imagine asking my DD to practise her composition just one day before her SA2 P1, your DD wrote not 1 comp but two comps ( some more she asked for it). If I asked my DD to do it, I think she is going to have nightmare....
He he.. my advice to my DD : please write neatly and not be so long-winded.

BTW can anyone share a bit more details on the school bus schedule, price, pros & cons?

We are thinking of going for school bus but worried if its too young to start her on it at P1. Thanks!

We got the list of sch bus operators on the orientation day. Just go to the sch bus booth to register your child. Someone will call you to confirm the pickup pt and time.

I believe there will be a bus fare hike next year.

So far, the bus servicing our route is a middle-sized one with no aunt to supervise the children.

When are you staying? Maybe some other parents who stay in the same area as you would be able to give more info.

I stay along Hume Avenue. Any info would be much appreciated.

If there is a choice, we would prefer to have a small bus instead (as the big ones probably not allowed to drive into the lobby due to its size)

So far I often see a big & old school bus pass by our place. So will get slight inconveniences during rainy days, plus I have to be on standby at waiting point (looking like a goondu :P)

I have this little story to share, pls pardon my simple EL and long winded approach.

Due to fengshui reason, we were advised to get a real green plant for our balcony. So we went to a nursery n were attracted to a shui mei in full bloom.

I watered the plant daily. New shoots grew.

As days went on, the flowers withered and fell. No new shoots as well.

Our estate is an old one, the very few left to have spacious outdoor and indoor spaces. So almost every mth there is a unit undergoing renovation.

One day, I discovered many leaves of the shui mei is covered in dirt.

I then sprayed each leaf with water in an attempt to wash away the dirt. But the mere spraying did not work. I had to use my fingers to rub the dirt off.

Shui mei has many small leaves. Altogether it took me many days to finally clean all leaves.

I chanced upon an article on gardening in the ST that advises how to care for shui mei and realised there are small bugs on my plant. So I went to NTUC and bou a bottle of pesticide and sprayed on the plant on a non-windy day. I noticed the leaves become more yellowish after the application of pesticides.

So I decided to crush these bugs one by one by hand. Again it took me quite a while since they are small and I had to look carefully despite my lao hua.

Now whenever I water the plant, I will check for bugs and dirty leaves and remove them promptly. I will also prune the branches to make room for new shoots.

And now the shui mei rewards me by flowering and growing new shoots again.

Everything happens for a reason. I think I hv learnt a valuable lesson from my shui mei.

well, almost quarrel with my dd's mummy regarding this issue. dd was taught in her creative writing class to SHOW and not to TELL in her writing. for eg. instead of \"it was a sunny day.\", my dd will write \"the sun shore brightly and fleecy white clouds floated in the sky.\"

However, her EL teacher seems not to like her style and her mummy getting panic. but you can't change that overnight and it will confuse her further which is right and which is wrong. I believe her teacher still wants to see safe writing which is boring. Anyway, i asked dd to stick to her style and well, the most she will lose 1 or 2 marks...but for long term, that is the direction to follow and i would prefer she starts early...
Not to worry PHP, you are right to encourage to write in this manner (not tell but use show). Actually this is not so easy to master, so it is a good start. Your DD's description about \" the sun shone ....\" is definitely accepted in P3 as my DD's class teacher has accepted such comp.
Perhaps her EL teacher is just trying to encourage her to go for story content and sentence structure at this stage ( still P1 ).

I think the school want to DEVELOP the story rather than using description.
Your girl will be fine 😄

Hi Trapwithin, I think it's still the same as last year. Write a 10-sentence one paragraph story based on a picture, not really a full composition yet.
I heard prevously you are allow to just write 10 statements and the flow need not be there. Now they want the story to be developed, not just 10 sentence on the picture.

]How do you manage to find the time and energy to do all that? You must have interest in it else how to make such much effort.

Uhmm...like very free hor? it's ex-occupational hazard, can't seem to change although I am now a full-time SAHM.

As for my dd, I hate to say the word...I think she's a perfectionist (her k1 teacher said before during PTM) which both my dh and I are fully aware of its consequences. Thankfully, my super relax dh can help balance it a little. So far, she could pick herself up pretty well after a setback and does not exhibit any anxiety explicitly. She has the 'unruffled' type of personality. I am the kancheong spider. Maybe she has greater faith. Haha.

Yes, I take interest in almost everything my three girls do, it's easier that way to stay home full-time.

Janet, I am sure you can help your going-to-be-P1 dd effectively having gone thru and learning so much together with your ds. No worries.
