      Hi E3,

I've copied down the title you told me...will check it out when I go to Popular. 😎
Just use them as references and guides. Those have good, applicative exercises in which your dd/ds could practise. My dd will observe what her classmates are reading, I told her to trust our own, mainly bcos I don't want her to rely too much on these models. Good to read but I told her she should develop her own style of writing.

Being an avid reader does help to draw ideas to write better and more creatively. Mine reads about 1-3 story books everyday. I borrow whatever model compo books from library to let her read too. Whenever I have time, we will study a compo or a part of story in detail. We also discuss on how can we rewrite to add in better phases/details or twist it to make it more interesting. Over time, bit by bit. I totally agree with E3 that the child must eventually develop her own style of writing.

For my 4yo, I read same story book over and over again with varieties of twists, and eventually, she starts to develop her own versions.

Both of them daydream alot, maybe that also contribute to a certain extent. 😉

I think mine writes alright for EL, but I definitely cannot say the same for CL. She stubbornly refuses to listen to my advise, she is not reading Chinese books of any kind. I ever joke that the only 2 CL books that I ever see her read are her texts. I think I may be covered with sweat tmr morning when I pray for her during her CL paper I.

          Hi everyone,

Am new to this forum and as parents to a young boy, we are beginning to search for a suitable school, preferably a christian school as we are both christians.

We would like to ask abt church affiliation. Does being a member of a presbyterian church helps in the balloting process if we are keen for our son to attend PHPPS?

Or what can we do to increase our chances of getting a place in the school besides staying within 1km of the school and doing PV?

          Appreciate your kind replies. 🙂

My P3 boy’s classmate got into some prob at school with the FT and was given probation for one month. What this probation means, I also dunno.

Actually this boy is quite poor thing, sort of kena sabo by another classmate. He was so angry that he could not defend himself properly other than shouting "I did not do it" repeatedly. The FT also lost patience. With her back turned away, this boy gestured the middle finger and said the F word softly. Some classmates saw n info the FT, leading to the probation been given to the boy.

So pls advise your child to calm down and tell the teacher the facts only. Do not become emotional and lose the chance to defend his actions.

The naughty ones who play the role of angel in school can get away with anything. The more honest ones suffer then.

Jennifer, thanks for sharing. Hopefully, the FT speak with the child/his parent after she has cooled down and investigate if anyone has "framed" the boy. Of course, it is not right for him to do what he has done even though he may be wronged. But you are right…some kids can’t express themselve well in such situations.

I went through the CL compo books with my son last night...putting a post-it tab of 'possible scenarios'. Asked him if he still remembers those 默写 he learnt and replied me, 'bits here and there' 😢 . Whatever it is, just get the Paper I exam done and over with lah. Then this weekend will go full gear for Paper II.

I was reading through the Si Wu Kuai Du material recommended by Tamarind in the other thread. I think the scaffolding is pretty good and believe my dd can still benefit from it.
Though this series do not have a direct impact on their HCL academic result but I hope it will stimulate the interest in reading CL books.

You might want to start that with your 4 yr old 😄

                      Hi IJJ,

Other than the CL textbooks that my son will ever touch will be the compo reference books WHEN he has to do a 作文. I have a headache just thinking of his lack of interest in reading. This Nov/Dec, will get both my kids to pick up a book to read and then tell me the contents.

I'm also using 四五快读 for my ds after strong recommendation from Tamarind. The only issue I find with this series is that they are not in story form, more like pages after pages of individual words. So if a kid is reluctant to read chinese initially, it would not be surprising to see the kid resist 四五快读 more.
