My P1 DD's sch expects them to write compo with 3 paragraphs. ๐Ÿ˜„

      Wow ๐Ÿ™‚ so advanced !!

      Tks ๐Ÿ™‚

A comment made by my girl's English teacher is that she writes her composition in a very descriptive manner...

I told my girl to imagine & pretend, but apart from that don't know what else to teach her...

      Any tips to share? ๐Ÿ™‚

      Hi Ming,
Advanced?? Thought that is the norm?? You mean your gal's sch's doesn't do that?

Wow!! Your DD must be doing very well in compo for her teacher to say she writes in a descriptive manner. That's excellent for a P1 to know that. Very encouraging. Sounds like your DD loves to write. well done.

My DD2 writes whatever comes to her mind and in her enthusiasm, she always forgets to punctuate..

I also tell my DD to imagine she's in the same situation and write about what she would do. A few good phrases never goes astray. Usually compos that score well are the ones that have good content, are coherant, use good phrases and have few or no grammatical and spelling errors.

DD's sch is big on phrases. The students are expected to have at least 3 good phrases in their compo. DD's teacher asked the class to learn 2 or 3 phrases for each feeling (eg. happy, sad, tired etc). This has indeed helped my DD. Now, I just have to work on her punctuation...haha

Just checking, does your DD's sch mark compo with the same weightage as my DD's sch? 6 marks for content and 4 marks for language (includes grammar, spelling and punctuation) . So total mark is 10 marks. Tks ๐Ÿ˜„

[/quote]Yes, my girl's school is also having the same weightage for composition grading.

However, there does not seemed to be much coaching given by her English teacher on the essence of writing a good composition... This poor mummy also does not have much creative flair. So far relying on some of the model composition books I sourced from Popular ๐Ÿ˜ข

              Hi all

My ds (K2) asked me 4 simple questions over the weekend when he was trying to fill up a puzzle and I am stuck! :?
e.g. as full as ....(what animal?), as hungry as.... (what animal?)

I told him I will find out and let him know... so I search high and low and managed to find only these. However, I have no confident that they are correct and I'm sure they are not complete... Can anyone out there help to correct me and/or add on to make this list complete?

              As fast as a cheetah/deer

              As slow as a snail

              As lazy/fat as a pig

              As clever as a monkey

              As hungry as a wolf/bear

              As happy/cheerful as a lark

              As quiet/timid as a mouse

              As fierce as a lion

              As silly as a goose/sheep

              As curious as a cat

As playful as an otter/a kitten

              As ugly as a scarecrow

              As wise as serpent/an owl

As busy as a bee/an ant

              As tired as a dog

              As gentle as a lamb/dove/rabbit

              As fat as a pig

              As nervous as a cat

              As quick as bunny/lightning/a flash

              As loud as thunder

              As light as a feather

              As easy as ABC/123

              As deep as the ocean

              As high as the heavens

              As clear as crystal

As far as the east is from the west

              As smooth as silk

              As good as new

              As sweet as honey

              As bitter as gall

              As cold as ice

              As hard as a rock

              As bright as the sun

              As rich as Croesus

              As flat as a pancake

              As sad as night

There are infinite, and the list is not exhaustive, anyone can come up with one at any secondโ€ฆ therefore, the list will never be completeโ€ฆ

Both are correct but 'realised' is preferred. 'Realised' is British English, which is the spelling standard used in Singapore.

Hi! Thank you for your reply. My DD wrote realized in her comp, her teacher changed to realised. Now I know how to explain to her . Thanks!
