As an ex-NJCian, you are welcomed to attend the Alumni meetings and dinners. That is surely a better forum to discuss your valued opinions, even directly with the Principal, if you wish to? Why criticise her here?

does the NJC principal know that those certain IP schools' top students are able to secure offer of admission (to the top unis) based on normal day to day work and prelim results and not entirely dependent on the A levels ? Certain parents pointed out that it is still subject to actual A level, but it is quite similar to the Sec 1 DSA these days - offer based on day to day performance but subject to 'satisfactory' PSLE which is just the minimum entry standard for MOE schools. And so, these IP graduates from those IP schools have an advantage which NJC has yet to make available to all NJCians....does she know that HCI (not sure about RI) has a dept that help placement of students to those top unis overseas ? Does NJC intend to have similar set up ?

We know before NJC started to offer Sec 1 places for IP through-train, they have a talent drought. And they have not had a president's scholar for so many years

No doubt no uni will bind themselves to any of these IP school so clearly, it is however clear that RI & HCI are the single largest source of students outside of UK / US entering those well known unis, as claimed by both HCI and RI.

What NJC could have said is that plan are in place to nurture its intake of students into high performers (all aspects) to secure places from those highly esteemed and high demand unis overseas. That would have been very assuring to any parents and students.

There is a need for the school to enhance the public perception in certain aspects.

In a public forum like this, I think we have to be open to both favourable as well as unfavourable comments. While NJC is still considered as a tier one sch (I would certainly be delighted if ds can qualify in their IP programme), it is also a fact that the other 2 top JCs have pulled away into a league of their own.


I think this is what vk2010 is trying to express and we are free to put forth our arguments if we disagree with him. If we only want to hear positive comments, then this forum will lose it’s usefulness. No offense, just my humble opinion.

In the early-mid 1980s, HCJC & NJC were the 2 top JCs. RJC was trailing behind as it was new, having just joined in from being a 2-year pre-u class part of RI. And then HCJC fell behind too bc of their temporary location due to rebuilding of their premises.

Both these schools have made a strong comback. Both these schools have a reputation to keep. Both have funds and also super-strong support from their Alumni. Ah...this is where people like VvKiasu comes in, in the case of NJC.
