Sorry to say, we seldom stay hotel cos we got free accomodation there.
Hi mrswongtuition,mrswongtuition:
Depends on where you are staying? Cos it's walking distance from my mum's condo.
From Bukit Bintang area, we normally take cab, go by meter. Around RM12 if no jam.
Is there any good hotel that you would recommend for KL area? You seem to know that area well
I was thinking of traders hotel but is it near a lot of attractions for kids?
For cheap hotel near shopping area, we used to stay at Hotel Fortuna (it's located in a small lane at Bukit Bintang area). It's walking distance to shopping and all the food. If I recall correctly, it's 3-4 star. It has a Arab restaurant at the lobby (the food there is fantastic, so is the ambience). Quite safe to leave your car parked there. My dad used to do that all the time when we drove up.
My cousins did recommend Berjaya Times Square before (she went there with her ILs and her entire brood of 4 kids). Based on what my nephews told me, they enjoyed their stay there.
In KL, take cab BY METER. If they refuse to do so, don't board the cab. If after you board the cab and they refuse to on the meter, get off. If you've reached your destination and they insist that you pay more than the meter fare, call police (or call for help from the security of the mall/hotel if you are dropping off at shopping mall/hotel).
A must go: MID VALLEY MEGA MALL. I love that place (so does my boy).
The Penang food at Centre Court 2nd Level is sedap!
Thinking about it makes me crave for Penang Laksa....... -
my dd loves art and craft.
it will be great if you could recommend a place for kids to learn Batik painting etc.
Also, would you recommend getting electronic appliances from KL?
wonder what people usually buy from KL… -
Usually we shop for:
1. Kid's clothes - cheap!
2. Accesories for ladies - large variety
3. Men's clothing - cheap and large variety at Jusco and Metro
4. Toys for kids
5. MAKAN!
6. Misc stuff like watch, contact lenses (super cheap), bags, shoes, etc
We go there mostly for the food than shopping

Usually we purchase coupon for the trip which is available outside big hotels/ shopping centres.

hi Carebear, do you mean you bought coupon for taking cab? I didn’t know there is such thing yet.
hi Mrs Wong, I am keen to get disposable contact lenses. May I hv some idea how the prices are like for Acuve, or the brands you know. also, is Jusco and Metro within the Mid valley mall?
it has been great here. thanks! -

Oh..where to get good toys for kids? Do they have the educational kind..I am thinking of making a day trip up to KL just to shop shop..heard that the shopping is good :lol:Usually we shop for:

Educational toys you must head to the newer high end malls. But it's still cheaper than SG

Sportswear is also cheap
For contact lenses, I get from a shop in Sungei Wang Plaza (Bukit Bintang area - very old shopping mall). Nice boss. If you run out of contact lenses and want more but can't make a trip up, they will mail it to you (transfer to their SG bank acct, then pay a small amt for shipping). Very convenient.
Myeyes Optical:
Lot G 050, Ground Floor
Sungei Wang Plaza, Jalan Sultan Ismail
50250 KL, Msia
Tel: 03-2144 1448
Contact person: Steven Soong (Email: [email protected])
If you intend to buy in person, they need a few days to order. Best to email them a picture of your current box then they will order for you so you can collect when you reach.
I'm using a brand called Biomedics. Definitely cheaper than SG. I think around 30-40% cheaper (mine is toric monthly disposable lenses). I personally find it more comfy than Acuvue or B&L. They have other brands too, do email or call them to check out

Mid Valley is huge. They have BOTH Jusco and Metro there
It took us 2 whole days to cover the whole shopping centre properly!
And some people like to hang out/lounge at cafes, there are quite a few there too.
I'm starting to miss KL!
My mum is going up next week *NOT FAIR*
They always drive up (I think once or twice a month). -
If you like to shop, can also go 1-Utama/Curve/Ikano, all quite close to each other. Just that they are in PJ. We usually drove there from KL.

We only head there when we have to visit Gramps
The drive there is not easy if caught in jam!
