I see maids yakking on the phone all the time...are they so in need of talking that they will die without a handphone ? Most of them who have a chance to yak are those looking after young kids, old people and bringing dogs out to poo.

Yesterday, DD and I were having our evening walk, we saw a lady scolding her maid. Apparently, the said maid had \"gone downstairs to collect mail\" for 2 hours. She was caught by her ma'am, yakking away with 3 other maids, while the family dog was on his leash, panting away, unable to poo, pee nor have a drink for 2 hours.

And her hands were empty, no mail collected as yet.

Not surprising. My maid took 2 hours to go to the market to buy something...when I pressed her for answer, she admitted she was talking to someone downstairs.

That's the problem! It's ok if they talk to other maids sometimes, they're human anyway and also need to interact. But it's a problem when they ended up talking so much that they neglect their work and become lazy or dishonest.

My parents used to have a maid who was very good at her work. She was clever, efficient and kept the house clean, cooked and even baked well. She was also quite a nice pleasant person. But she was on the phone all the time! I was in JC at that time, and whenever I was home, I was like her receptionist. Always picking up her phone calls!! but lucky she still managed to do her work quite well, so we close one eye.

It is sometimes pretty scary knowing that a complete stranger is staying with you.

I still remember vividly a murder case that actually happened in my neighbourhood a couple of years back.

Me, dd & mum-in-law were walking past that block that particular day when we suddenly noticed lots & lots of policemen. Then, to my horror, I saw a black police van with the name forsenic printed on it. Immediately, I knew something has happened. Lo & behold, news team came & reported that a maid had murdered her employer brutally.

That puts me off maids 4ever.

We really don't know what is in the minds of maids when they arrive. Are they mentally alright ? When I think of my prev maid looking like a zombie, it scares me like crazy...so when she got on my nerve, I got her to talk to the maid agency boss...at the end of 2 hours, she didn't look better...I quickly sent her back. That put me off maids.

True...true. Sometimes, the maids were thinking of their own homes. There they are looking after some1's dd, but in their own brain, they could be missing their own bb's. Sometimes, they get so homesick, they do anything so that they can be sent home. They steal ur stuff, get themselves pregnant, put urine into ur tea, pour bleach into ur plain water, drink dd's milk formula & anything. Scary right?

                  AuntieKiasi,

If the maids miss their kids and put their love on employer’s children, that would be nice. But the scary thing which some maids bring with them are witchcraft nonsense…like putting urine into our drinks so that we will like them. If angry with employer bcos of being scolded, they pour soap powder into our food or milk powder. :x
There was a case of the maid putting soap powder into the formula so that the babies fall sick and then parents would be busy caring for their sick twins and ignore what the maid is up to. :x

                    Janet_lee,

How true.. all those sadistic stuff they do. I came across a maid a few days ago, who all of a sudden started to undress her young charge in public. She was helping the kid get changed into pre-school uniform!! :stupid: What was on her mind??!!! :stupid: I mean in a void deck leh!!!! I really pity her employers...I think they do not know. Poor employers!

Anyway, I believe maids also cost not cheap right?

Maids cost a BOMB to hire, on top of that, a torture to train. Just when they are slightly better after 3 months, maids think their wings are hardened. After 9 months or when their loans are over, their true colours show. How to hire them ?

Take new maid, almost have to hold their hands and teach them to work and tell them which is salt, sugar, and oil. Then teach them to do housework and cook same few dishes everyday. Bear in mind, they don't give attitude problem or resistant to learn. If getting maid with experience, she thinks she is damn smart and not willing to listen.

Actually, there are a variety of services in sg, that we don't even need to

                        consider hiring maids.

eg. childcare centres (some even offerinfant care), student care services(some even offering services up to Sec 4), elder care services.

The kids will receive everyday care (tuition included) & the old will have people their age to talk to in all those places. And better still, got govt subsidy. 😉 And also you need not worry whether they eat or not as these ctrs will make sure their charges have their food.
