All About Preparing For Primary One

Some parents would feel that difficult 听写 helps in P1...however, I find this will frighten the kids before they even go to P1...and may backfire. I do teach my gal 听写 but won't push her to memorize and get all correct. If she does, I praise her, but even if she gets all wrong, I praise her for effort put in.
There are always two sides to a coin. At the end of the day, you know your kids best. So, adopt the method which fits your children. Some children like challenges, while others will buckle. -

Agreed. TLC is important, too. In life, we have to give and take. If you feel that a certain aspect is more important, then, go for it, but be prepared that other aspects may not be ideal. You may be right qms... but but.. the one big bugbear is that the school lacks in what I deem most important.. TLC.. my gals and I feel that it is no where near the tender loving care they were showered in their ex-CC..
for this we are planning to relocate my DD2 next year when she goes to K1... it may likely be a compromise when it comes to CL preparation but TLC is a super important factor for me.. unless the teachers start changing then that's a different consideration...
My girl, too, prefers her former childcare centre. -

I agree and practice the same. No forcing. But coercing yes
.. just to get her to learn and try her best... most of the time no more than writing twice (morn and nite) a day from Saturday to Monday morning..

My girl's childcare centre underwent a management change beginning of this year. So, location-wise still the same, but managed by different companies. -

i see all other parents and kids are okay with this current CC.. .maybe for us, we get to compare now and before so it makes the situation much less ideal... -
For 听写,the child can only remember through writing...even my son at P4 writes to remember. I get her the XL square exercise books for her to practice...can almost finish one exercise book for 2 weeks. Why must 听写 be so difficult ???

Janet_lee88, I can only say - you always have a choice.

For my gal, the school gives CL homework twice a week. It is 1 full page (medium boxes) of writing the sentence/part of the phrase for the week's ting xie. Tuesday 2 phrases and Friday another 2 phrases. Meaning just as homework, she will have to write each of the character in a column. For 听写,the child can only remember through writing...even my son at P4 writes to remember. On Saturday and Sunday, morning and night, we will go through the full ting xie test once or twice. One final test on Monday morning before going to CC.
So far, this works very well for us.
I agree that the list is very difficult, i would already be very happy if she can recognize those words...
The CC and more importantly my hubs believe that CL must learn to write to remember... thankfully DD1 is not resistant..
