If a kid sits there and uses his mental capacity to think out the solution steps at P4, do not be too happy. It`s a bad habit. By P5 he will face great difficulty. Even if he manages to solve the problem sum, the amount of energy, time taken and careless mistakes made will be much more than if the information is written and organised on paper be it using model or units.

Ya, my P3 boy is exhibiting this behaviour now while I insist on neat written workings :x Trying very hard to motivate him to put his workings onto paper. Even got to bribe him :stupid:

whether the school prepares the kid or not depends on how ‘good’ or kiasu is the school. some schools assume kids go tuition and leave it to them, i believe.

I believe some of the popular schools do assume kids go tuition and leave it to them to know...so teachers just blah blah blah.
My son has CL tuition as I am not able to teach him 作文 writing skills.

I think it would show in the cohort's performance, and the p5/p6 teachers are generally very \"on\" and would keep students that perform poorly for extra coaching, etc. Or if the whole class does poorly, the teacher would hold supplementary classes for the whole class as well. Of course if that class does well, then no need, lah.

                what is 'what's up‘?

thot reader digest is for adults?
It is a newspaper for school kids.
We introduced reader's digest in lower primary, Newsweek in upper primary and The Economist in secondary school. It is important to have an understanding of current global issues. 😉

My son's EL teacher uses this newspaper for Spelling as well as getting them to find the meanings of tough words.

Yes Yes Yes!!!! If you make sure that they have a good foundation in their core subjects from the start, it is possible! 😉 I refrained from jumping on the bandwagon and giving my DD tuition! It worked out fine for her - 4Astars at PSLE! One exception is Ch as my DH and I do not speak/write/read the language at all. Other than that, no tuition for Eng/Maths/Science. I do not want my DD to rely on tuition as i prefer her to set out her own study schedule, develop good study habits, learn to make her own notes, identify her own weak areas and look for ways to overcome it etc. She needs to develop these thinking and decision making skills now and it will be useful for later in life.

How about no tuition and no help from parents? Just rely on the school to prepare them for PSLE .... can excel too, I hope!

Yup i am sure it is possible. Just have the right attitude and mindset, everything is achievable!

Dorcas Ang is good. He also has books on Vocabulary too. Look out for it.

                      Hmm... Dorcas is Female.

                      Thanks!
