Looks like Singapore is becoming like US where everyone is suing everyone over everything. Just this morning was reading the papers about a . Just over the last few days I read about 4 cases of people suing govt agencies or schools.

      This teacher case,
the case of the girl who died while treking Mt Panti,
the teenager who fell while cable skiing as part of PE
NS man suing SAF claiming negligence over a sprained ankle that somehow led to him developing phobia

Hmm..so the profession of choice should be lawyer or psychiatrist or psychologist for our kids cos most of this cases involve psychiatrist or psychololists.
Agree totally. The word \"sue\" is so common nowadays. šŸ˜ž

        ksi:

All I can say is that from my dealings with teachers so far, many of them live in a \"sheltered\" world of their own area of responsibilities so don't expect them to have the sharpness of a corporate animal or even a sharp homemaker who has to multi-task and bargain at the market. Actually sometimes the simplicity of a teacher allows our kids to retain their sweet innocence longer.
Hey ksi, your observation is very interesting.

But it has become a corporate world out there, office politics are rife and claws are very very sharp.

And aren't teachers multi-tasking all the time?? Juggling numerous other portfolios while still responsible for teaching?

Well, at least from my friends and my own past experience.

As 25hourmaid aptly put it, there are always some black sheeps among the whites lah ...

I think they lack of on-the-feet thinking skills. of course, they also need to be rationale, I'm not asking the teacher to be good in everything, but to climb out of the ventilation vent is really highly imaginative... even I... can't think of doing it, and i watch a lot of movies and silly k-dramas

Don't you find this highly ironical?? Considering they have a hand in molding the future generation šŸ˜„

Actually, teachers are humans too. And someone did mention that she may have panicked. Different people react differently when faced with situations.

Imaginative she may have been. I personally have not read the article so cannot comment why she did what she did. There may have been underlying reasons which the papers may have missed out?? All I can say is that its easy to speculate when one is not in that position.

Okie ... I'll try and do a thorough read up on the article. Perhaps my views may change after that.

Let's hope d legal system here doesn't go dat way.
One of d most ridiculous cases I heard was a friend suing
another friend for her injury cos' her friend did up her house to invite dis friend to visit. She slipped, felled n hurt herself on d waxed floor.

Litigation lawyers in US sometimes ask for a percentage of the $ won in lieu of court fees, which partly explains d ridiculous amounts in compensation asked for.

Hi Blobbi, long time no hear.
                She is from Bollywood -
                dat's a pix of Ash šŸ˜‰
                Yo!

I go out for a bit and this thread has ballooned!

I just wonder why she bothered to sue in the first place when the weight of the evidence is against her. it was her own heavy-handed actions that caused her injuries. Since she ain't no Ash, shimmying through the ventilation opening is at least a poor option. Like round peg, square hole, gwim?

that's why they don't invite their friends over to their house :?

Autumnbronze, I know school has politics but never quite the same as the complex corporate world.
