[Serangoon] Primary Schools

Hi chie,Taking the RC route the advantage is that alow you to target more primary schools especially if you are under a GRC.
But u can only register in one school finally. And it's not as easy as one think to get a 2B letter via grassroot route. U can check out the grassroot thread for more info. -
Thought usually the Chairman or the MP would give a kind of certification letter that you are an active community leaders? :?

Hi Chie,
Glad that ksmummy answers your questions. I don’t have any insider info in PV area as dd1 didn’t enter school via this route. We are ex-students of the school. What I can say is that dd1 is pretty happy with the school. So I think it is worth it the effort for you to try either RC or PV route to get a place in the school. -

Thanks for the reply..:)..yup, I am very thankful for ksmummy's advices as well. At least, I know for now I don't have to crack my brains to come up with a proposal since it is so luck dependant...haha...
I love my primary school too but it is just too far away despite it being a good school as well.
Best Regards,

Hi Keekee
Since your dd is in Rosyth, what is your honest observation about the teachers’ attitude towards the students? Are the teachers loving & caring, or are they more concerned in pushing the students to excel to get into the GEP programme and to produce top PSLE students?
Do you feel that Rosyth tends to be over-zealous in churning out as many olympiad mathematicians as possible? Does it over-emphasise in maths performance?
Does the school also have a good foundation in character building?
Please excuse me for the many questions as I am in 2 minds if I should try to do PV there although I stay within the 1km vicinity of the school.
Aside to KSMummy, if you have any feedback to share on your observation about the school, please comment too. Do you have any idea how many PVs would the school engage at every intake?
Many thanks in advance for your response. -
Cartier,
There is no doubt that the school emphasizes on academic work. The teachers have so far been responsive to my enquiries. As for pushing of students for GEP program and churning of olympiad mathematicians, I don’t feel such pressure yet. Maybe because my dd is still in p1 or maybe because she has not been "identified" by teachers as the gifted ones, heeheehee …
The meet the teachers session will be conducted as the end of this month. Hopefully, I can provide you with more info then. -

I am thinking of sending my son to St Gabriel's as one of the choices mainly because it is single session and it is 4 mrt stops (circle line) from my place. How is the school? Anyone got any feedback? -
ksmummy:
Hi KSmummy,How old is your child? Think Rosyth is taking PV for 2005 kids recently (or have they closed the application), check their website.
If I remember correctly, you need not attach any proposal in your PV apllication, they pick you randomly (that's why I said it is very much dependent on Lady Luck!) for the interview. The interview is conducted by the Admin Manager.
You are right about the advantage of PV vs Grassroots as it allows you to know more about the school and the staff.
Any tips on how to pass the interview?
Could you share a little on what Rosyth needs in terms of PV help?
Thanks much! -

Recently, I spoke to some friends with children in RGPS and NYPS, the ones with kids in RGS said that the teachers dont teach very much as ksparents like them have mostly prepared their gals well in advance and continue to drill their kids at home. My friend's son in NYPS doesnt have much homework in P1 and she takes it easy, does not nag him to study. Which made me want to ask you the following questions, hopefully you can enlighten us a bit:
1) Do the teachers in Rosyth teach or do they expect the students to be well enriched before they start school?
2) From your observation, are the Rosyth students pretty prepared in advance of their lessons like RGPS?
3) How much homework and tests does your dd have?
Thanks in advance.
